I sometimes have to convince my wife to go riding with me. I got her to go out with me last week and we did about 10 miles around town. She rode an E-bike because she wasn’t feeling 100% and she is not as strong a rider as me.
There is a steep hill about an 1/8th mile from my house, and the highway is a 5 lane. It is a very brief stretch on it, but I was in a hurry to get down the hill and left turn into my neighborhood before the traffic came from the opposite lanes.
I was going 20+ and tried to brake into the turn because I realized I was going too fast. I wasn’t slowing fast enough so I applied more pressure. My brakes locked up and I slid right into a curb and went over the bars. I superman landed on my stomach. My knee hit the curb. I thought I broke my leg. I definitely broke a bone in my hand and sprained both wrists, a hamstring as well. I am moving very slow and have every color of the rainbow on my leg. Some road rash on my hands and legs as well.
Thankfully I was wearing a helmet. It was traumatizing for my wife who was behind me. It’s difficult enough to get her out on the road. She has a fear of riding around cars. I’m trying to downplay the crash to avoid playing into her fears. My bike took some damage. It’s at the shop but I think it will survive.
This is the 2nd most terrible crash I have ever been in. The 1st most terrible wreck was a BMX accident where I was impaled. I will make another post on that later if anyone is interested.
Moral of the story, sometimes you’ve got to go slow to go fast.

Since my solo crash I go so much slower. I hit some uneven pavement (newly, badly patched road), and my front wheel lost traction and I was thrown from my bike. Shattered my wrist and suffered a brain bleed (now I live with a TBI). I was also wearing a helmet (It would have been horrible/catastrophic if I had not worn a helmet).
My husband was behind me and saw the event unfold. I think it has made him less eager to ride is bike.
Heal quick! Sorry this happened to you
