I am building my first road bike, and I en outer the problem of having quite a bit of play in the headset. The movement is mostly from front to back. When I inspect the position of the bearings I saw it is rocking back and forth.
Is this normal for the headset bearing? How am I able to fix the play out of the headset? Thank you in advance.

The play should disappear once everything is properly assembled preloaded. If you can’t get sufficient preload, the steerer may be too long for the stack of headset/spacers you’ve got, or you’ve maybe got bits in the wrong order.
