I’m not sure what dents you’re referring to. Can you point them out specifically? Are you referring to the shift ramps and “pins”?
I also am not sure what you mean by the dents. If you’re referring to how the teeth on the big chain ring “bend” side to side thats intentional from the manufacturer. They’re used to aid in shifting from gear to gear. The rear hub cassette will have a simular feature.
As for the skipping, I couldn’t whats going wrong there. My initial instinct would be to adjust the front derailleur too so if thats not working it either means the adjustment is not done correctly or needs to be looked at with a more experienced eye.
Those dents are supposed to be there. They help the chain move from one chainring to another.
