    Court Result – Arrogance or Ignorance? HG71MVJ



    I’m not sure whether she understood what she was doing wrong, or simply didn’t care. Nowadays, most drivers try to hide the phone the second they’re caught. This kind of reaction is more like the old days when drivers were not so used to random cyclists catching them doing wrong like this.

      That's a truly wonderful expression of disdain. She must have practiced it a lot. It's not just that you are telling her off for using a phone -it is that your are a cyclist so automatically one of the peasantry. She'll be the kind of driver who does the M4 to their little Cotswolds cottage at 90 mph getting right behind anyone who doesn't also drive an expensive SUV and getting upset they've the audacity to drive in the "important people's lane". Speaking from experience that actually includes BMW estate cars

      Everybody knows drinking and driving is stupid. Sensible people never do it. But does everybody know that using a phone whilst driving is even more dangerous? Until drivers are aware of the danger they pose, this offence will not stop. Of course, an immediate ban (same as for drink-driving) would certainly be a way to quickly educate the public. The law needs strengthening, with stiffer penalties.

      All the hypocrites on here 😂😂😂. 95% of people have been guilty of handling a handheld device since the laws have come in. Mikey why don’t you try some of that around the Stamford Hill area.

      She probably don’t give a toss based on the car she is driving, I don’t think that fine will break her bank account, it pisses me off to see this they should be given a ban then maybe then would think twice when they to catch public transport, or get a push bike

      Maybe a better penalty would be to have to show a A-plate [antisocial] for 12 months and drunk drivers D-plate [drunk driver]…… either after the penalty or when they regain their license…… shaming people who have enough resources to shrug off the impact of a court’s decision would be a more effective approach….. if not maybe the stocks?

      Definitely a combination of ignorance and/or arrogance. She gave you a calm look and just carried on doing her stuff rather than recognising/accepting her error and trying to make good.
      Hopefully her sanction will persuade her to behave differently in the future? Time will tell…

      It's the entitled attitude that stuns me the most. I think the entitlement is the result of 40 years of politics that says there is no such thing as society. Thanks goodness you believe in a decent society.
