Hi all
I have just received a new Brompton Electric C Line 2024 bought via CycleSolutions on a ride to work scheme.
This is after having returned one last week which had a slightly bent chainring/crankset which was causing the chain to stick and catch and make a noise. Cycle Solutions arranged return of the bike and delivery of a new one (it’s a different bike for certain, not the same one “fixed”)
I have received the new bike and it has exactly the same fault. The bike has not been ridden, I checked it over as soon as I received it and found the same fault. I’ve also found that the rear brake wasn’t properly adjusted and there’s some sort of issue with the rear derailleur meaning the gears keep catching and don’t change smoothly. The latter two I suspect are just down to poor set up and something I can get rectified at the bike shop near where I live (though a bit miffed that the bike isn’t rideable out the box).
Please can you help me work out:
– What is the black piece attached to the lower part of the frame below the seat post just by the chain? – this isn’t shown on the manual for the bike or any images on the website of the bike – is it meant to be there and should it be removed? It looks like its purpose is to keep the chain from coming off, but this is the main thing the chain is rubbing on.
– Any other suggested solution please!
Cheers in advance

While that is a horrible noise, I’m not sure what rotating in the wrong direction is supposed to tell us
It looks like a chain catcher. Can probably be removed if it’s only a one speed up front.
