UPDATE HERE: https://youtu.be/GwNnpDhpH-U

I’ve posted an update about what happened (link above), but just wanted to clear up a few things based on a LOT of comments I’ve seen over the last week. I’ll pin this in a comment too for visibility.

1) The dog owners didn’t run off. I stopped the video because we exchange personal info after this, obviously I’m not going to show that.
2) I was reimbursed for my damaged gear.
3) NO, the dogs should NOT be put down, they need better training and handling. I don’t want these dogs or any animals to get hurt.
4) You can’t legally carry pepper spray/guns/tazers/light sabres/nun chucks/or knives in the UK. The only thing you are allowed to use to defend yourself in such a situation is a stiff upper lip and dry humour.

I was going to blur out the faces but f*ck these people. I was out riding, just exploring at the weekend when this happened. Over Β£200 of my riding gear was wrecked and I received multiple bites causing puncture wounds and severe bruising. As it was really cold I had a lot of layers on which is lucky or this could have been a lot worse. Plus the cold had made me quite numb so it only began to really hurt later once I’d warmed up. I’ve had to have a tetanus shot and anti-biotics and am having to take time off work.

Up until this point, I’d never really given dogs a second thought while riding. I love dogs, and knew that I should try to stay calm and still when they ran up to me hoping they were just excited and might jump up and be playful.

Nope. They almost immediately started biting me. I tried not to pull away or run and still tried to stay calm, which is kind of hard when you’re being chewed on, hoping that they would back off once they realised I wasn’t a threat and the owners would get them under control quickly.

Well, you can see what happened. I was very tempted to put the Benny Hill “Yakety Sax” music over this but I thought it might detract from the gravity of the situation.

If you’re a rider: Assume all unleashed dogs are a potential threat.

If you’re a dog owner: Keep your dogs on leads. And pick up their sh*t while you’re at it.

  1. Umm.. this is not only a random strangers getting attacked. That one dog nearly bite his owner to the neck. This is REALLY disturbing to watch and i cant imagine wtf has happened to these dogs to act like wild animals, this is not normal reaction this is clearly bad owner job.

  2. That dog, I think the younger one, actually bit the man trying to help the lady, on the neck. Look at 0:44 .

Its fortunate that these dogs didn't mean to do serious harm, as others have said, it was likely instintive hunting behaviour of something moving and a pack mentality jobbie. That being said, these two should not own those dogs, they are not training them properly and they have 3 of the most independent and intelligent dogs but have no control over any of them.

  3. I’m late to the party on this, but did that woman say β€œpolice dogs”, are these people Police K9 handlers??? Because if so, they need to be reassigned or fired.
    .
I’m a reactive K9 rehabilitator, I cannot FATHOM the level of incompetence I just witnessed on the part of the people in bright coats trying to handle those puppies. Let alone when they grow up.

  4. Yea it’s times like this where I think it’s okay to put down or hurt a dog. I know it’s ultimately the owners fault but if this man had a child with him or another pet, this would be absolutely horrific. Also to mention that their own dog went to bite him on the shoulder/neck, absolutely horrible.

  5. One time I was riding my bike at the park and I heard a dog barking I looked around and it started chasing me the dog was the size of a pug I dont remember the breed but it was a small one. I laughed and was thinking to myself-lets see what you got cause I was certain that escaping wouldnt be hard. But I barely got away. When I lost it I looked at my speedometer and it showed 25mph

  6. Here in Denmark those dogs would have been put down by law. As should those + the owners should’ve gotten huge fines.

It’s only a matter of time before they attack someone else. If child or elderly there is a huge potential for a much worse outcome.

Our guy here should definitely report this to the police instead of letting it continue.

  7. shouldn't have stopped. speed at full power instead, they cant catch you and eventually give up. you get down the bike you better be armed or know to how to hit them with the bike keeping them at bay while you slowly walk forward

  8. German Shepherd scary but as you can see it doesn’t attack while Belgian Malinois actually attack but those one looks like six months old.

  9. Can you update us on what happened after this attack on you. Did you call the police? I hope steps were taken to prosecute these irresponsible owners with three dangerous off lead dogs that look like Malanois.

  10. That was a pack attack and highly dangerous. Hope you are ok. You are very lucky you werent seriously injured. Its hard to fight off a pack of 3 Malonois
