South Downs Winter 55 Mile race recce west section starting in Glynde over Beddingham hill, over the river Ouse, up towards Ashcombe Bottom, heading back through Lewes and a climb out to the Lewes downs. Mount Caburn was the final ascent before dropping back to Glynde.
The round trip was 36Km with 950m of elevation, according to my Garmin watch, completed in 5 hours at easy pace with several navigation stops to check the route plus some route detours due to path closures..
Some parts of the route were either flooded or very muddy but generally run-able. My feet, legs and hands were wet and cold from the beginning due to a strong wind and heavy rain but after a the climb over Beddingham hilll I warmed up, my feet were wet for the rest of the course.
