A fun VOR hopping flight around London in the Black Square TBM 850 in Microsoft Flight Simulator – purposely eschewing GPS and location reporting in LittleNavMap and Navigraph to force us to use our head, and interpret what the instruments are telling us. Towards the end of the flight we make a change to the plan, and descend into the pattern at Wycombe Air Park.

TBM 850 or M500? I know they are different navigation wise, but Iām can only justify one purchase what do I go with? What is more enjoyable?
Nice!
Very enjoyable, Jonathan, as always.
how do you start a flight without knowing where you are?
Once again – you came good t request – and so quickly – just wonder what changes the SU 14 is supposed to change
Another great video, only half way through, will look forward to seeing the rest š
Apologies for not switching the ignition to auto as soon as we reached cruise š There's always something… š Also – do I win an award for not noticing the KNX80 was in RNAV mode for ages š
Thanks
OK just bought it – No EFB though – how do you get the old IFR set up you used – mine opens up with the TD750XLI
nothing in the manual
Stress the "To From" arrow!! If it is not pointing ahead, you have to steer opposite to the needle. If you are hand flying, your primary Instrument for tracking the VOR is the Directional Indicator. The Course Needle simply tells you what heading to fly. If the needle is off center, you adjust your heading a few degrees to get back on course, and then go back to another heading a degree or so from what you had and see if that heading keeps the needle centered.
Also, if you are flying a VOR Flight Plan, as you get closer to the station, the needle gets more sensitive, so if you are using the autopilot, it goes crazy crossing the station. Normal procedure is to switch to Hdg Hold a couple miles before the Station, change the Heading to the outbound heading as you cross the station, reset the Course to the outbound radial heading, and once the needle settles down, switch back to Nav Mode.
To clarify the TO FROM flag discussion, the Flag points AT the VOR Station. If you are going toward the station, it points ahead. If you are going Away from the Station, it points behind you. Tracking depends on you course setting; if the Course Needle points ahead, track the needle normally. If the Course Needle points behind you, track the needle in reverse.
