I’ve been thinking about this journey for 3 years.

It all started when I found tree planting. It changed my life. It showed me how much I liked being outside, doing physical things. How little I needed to be happy and how much I could take before I broke down. After my first season. 2 things happened that have never happened before. I had free time and I had money. I decided to go to India. I had heard that India was considered one of the hardest places to go backpacking. India is a much vaster place and walking it wasn’t going cut it. So, I bought the basic Scott Sub Cross and steeled myself to travel 5000km over 6 months by bicycle. This was my first time travelling outside of Canada so I thought that if I could make it here, I could make it anywhere.

Fast forward to the following year after my second season. I bought my Surly ECR “The Dianne Rose”, some touring bags. I didn’t know bikepacking was a thing at this point. Got a dog, her name is Mikoto. Bought a Burley Trailer. And decided to do a 6000km, 6-month tour across Canada through the winter. My thinking being if I can survive camping, living outside, riding a bicycle during the Canadian winter I could survive anywhere.

Now during my time cycling across Canada I started to think about my next adventure. The previous two, although intense… Seemed like a small distance. A short time. I wanted to do more, go for longer. I just want to live my life on the bike. So, I said, I’ll bike across the States through Mexico, and down to the southern point of South America. Turn around and make my way to Alaska for the winter. I told myself I would start this journey before I was 35 to give myself time for preparation and time to make some money. I’m 34 today, I turn 35 this upcoming March 2nd and I’ll be leaving at the end of the month.

My plan is to hit every major bikepacking route on bikepacking.com on the way through each area.

I’ve always liked reddit. I’m going try to post a story of the travels at least once a week. I did this back when I was going across Canada as u/consumethis. But I lost my email and can’t access it anymore… All that karma is gone. If you’re interested go check it out! Also, if anyone cares for video content and photos.
