I am trying to set up a chainstay mounted U-brake. I have never set up a U-brake before but I’ve installed cantis on several bikes and the principle seems similar. This is a shot from below, with this Dia Compe 990 installed under the chainstays on an old MTB. I am at a loss on how to adjust the straddle cable and cable tension effectively. Whenever I pull the brake lever the straddle cable pops out when under adequate tension, or else the brake doesn’t engage at all.
The brake cable also pops out of the slot where it plugs into the brake lever upon release when the tension is not high. Anybody have any ideas? I’ve looked over a bunch of YouTube videos and it seems straighforward, idk what I’m missing.
