My name is Jay Swanson – I’m an American writer living in Paris on an artist visa. Paris (yes the one in France) has been my home for years now and I have every intention of staying here for as long as they’ll have me. I write science-fiction and fantasy, vlogged daily for 3+ years, and love pizza a little too much. Now I make videos about visiting Paris, traveling in Europe, and try to share what I’ve learned along the way. I hope you enjoyed what you found.

Links are affiliate links where they can be – meaning if you click through them and buy something, I’ll get some pennies. Thanks! (The FTC wants me to tell you that up front)

  1. I got lost in London this past summer after the Iron Maiden concert. It is a thing. Make sure you have a plan B at night. Sometimes they close the tube for no particular reason. 🫀. But I did like the adventure πŸ˜…

  2. You said it all in the first few sentences πŸ™‚ London is nuts! It's too big, too expensive…In my opinion, not really a great place to visit or live in, especially in comparison to other great cities in the world. I think it's highly overrated and doesn't have much to offer apart from that it seems cool and full of things but only on the surface. The quality of food is not great and well overpriced. The lifestyle is hectic. It's not really beautiful apart from a few places. There isn't anything this city is bringing to the table really. Paris is way better in terms of size, fashion, food, and atmosphere. London is just too big. Some people like and that's cool as well but it's not for me.

  3. Jay, it's exciting to see you in exploration/amateur mode. Much as I appreciate you as an expert on Paris, I love seeing you dive into unfamiliar or defamiliarized places. It's kind of soothing to hear you say you find London overwhelming.

  4. So happy to see you happy, Jay! And seriously have really missed the β€œdoing it for the fun of it” vlogs. But I also know that you’ll find a way to marry the amateur fin and the North Star you’ve been seeking because I have faith in you, my friend! πŸ’œπŸ™πŸ»

  5. This terminology is a little iffy.Β
At this point, you couldn't be an amateur if you tried a high-wire act between the Eiffel Tower and any Statue of Liberty.

Besides, your appetite for growth is an inspiration.

  6. Boy, this video had such a timely message for me! I’ve been struggling with feelings of mediocrity as I plan the next stage of my career. Your videos are wonderful; I enjoy each one regardless of content, they have such a cozy vibe. I hope you find your north again and keep having fun making these!

  7. I love staying in just one neighborhood when visiting a huge city. Its not always feasible, but so fun when it's an option!

  8. Off license is named so because there used to be a time in the past where pub have restricted opening and closing hours. And during those closing hours people who are in need of their alcohol fix will go to these shops that open "off license" from the pub license of opening hours.

  9. stayed at the tower hotel by the bridge – felt great – only stayed and did tourist stuff in that area for 4 days. flew from miami 2019 british air it was 400 bucks a person for everything and i navigated the train from the airport. lol!
