Things we did/tried (it was an aluminum dropper post)
– bike7 deblock everywhere (from above and from below)
– seatpost in the bench vice, using the frame to try and get it moving
– ammonia in the seat tube and letting it overnight
– try to get it moving again in the bench vice
– cut the top of the dropper to check inside
– unscrew the dropper top
– cut of the outer side wall of the dropper so we could screw the inside out
– more deblock
– drill out the bottom of the dropper to allow a saw blade to go the entire length of the outer shell of the seatpost
– start sawing with a metal blade (after a few hours, bought this: [https://www.hubo.be/nl/p/stanley-mini-metaalzaagbeugel-25cm/17845/?fbclid=IwAR1Ty4lLogQh97CDDqo2WELhHGGurXdeOL9IKTWgK9a4Frh9ovEoFnW36Bk](https://www.hubo.be/nl/p/stanley-mini-metaalzaagbeugel-25cm/17845/?fbclid=IwAR1Ty4lLogQh97CDDqo2WELhHGGurXdeOL9IKTWgK9a4Frh9ovEoFnW36Bk)) to have more pressure on the blade and allowing a straighter cut
– more sawing
– twist 1 part of the sawed through (well, almost as I did not wat to cut in the steel)
– more sawing
– more twisting
– more drilling in an attempt to cut away as much aluminum as possible, which caused the post to drop (no pun intended) and the upper part to be almost out of reach to grab onto
– more sawing
– twisting, pulling, twisting, pulling, cut the remaining part trough with a sharpened screwdriver, twisting, pulling, etc.
– finally it moved about 1 cm, turned out there was a tiny bit of aluminum still holding the thing together, bashed through that and then …
– twisting and pulling upwards …
I think I spent about 8 hours on the entire ordeal, trying very very hard not to damage the frame, but in the end some paint on the seat tube cracked a bit.
But it is out, tomorrow I scrape the tube clean, put in fresh grease and a new (non-dropper) seatpost.

Woot, well done! I had an Al seatpost seized in a steel frame and I couldn’t remove it. I tried strong base for 24hrs and it just made a mess everywhere. Gave up and chucked the frame.

Did you try loosening the pinch bolt?

God damn, I feel you. Did one for a friend a few months back and attempted everything else you did before cutting it out. Used my uncles workshop and he had a go on the reciprocal and sawed a nice notch in the top of the seat tube. Never again 😂
