Picked up a postwar Cleveland Welding Co. roadmaster frame recently to build up as a klunker and encountered its seat post which is a solid metal rod measuring 5/8in. Holding the seat post in place is a shim of about 1/8in seated flush inside the seat tube. It’s kind of hard to see in this photo but I’ve marked it out the best I can.
I need a decent amount of seat post height, so I’m hoping if at all possible to remove the shim. Does anyone know if it is welded in and/or structural? I’ve tried to see how far it goes down into the seat tube, and it’s at least 7 inches down. If it’s not welded, would it be possible to pull it out with WD and a Slide Hammer/Puller? If its welded in I’d take any DIY seatpost adaptor ideas for something structurally sound that also doesn’t look like a long ass piece of rebar for a seatpost. Or I may just go back to trolling Craigslist for a Schwinn that has a proper seatpost… Thanks in advance for any insights!
