Glad I didn’t lose my wheel! [https://i.imgur.com/6ubCdqr.jpeg](https://i.imgur.com/6ubCdqr.jpeg)

After an \~8 hour road trip between NYC and Toronto, I take my bike off the hitch rack (the frame-holding kind, not the wheel-holding kind) only to see the through-axel halfway out, as pictured . Pretty wild.

I’m assuming some kind of spinning force unwound it? There was nothing else on the rack and, perhaps foolishly, the wheel wasn’t lashed down.

Anyone ever see anything like this? Any idea what’s going on? Any concerns about actually riding with it? Thanks in advance

    1. Someone unscrewed it at the parking.
    2. It was not tightened well, went out because of vibrations.
    3. Check the thread, tighten to spec, recheck after ride.

Badly attached bikes and vibrations on badly torqued screws do this. Did’nt you bother to check during your 8 hrs drive ?
That could be super dangerous for other road users.

  3. I had this happen on my bike, which I thought back to the last time I assembled the bike I could not remember actually torquing up the axle, so i assume I got distracted during build and not that there was any failure!
