Context: 6’1, new biker (maybe will get into road cycling) primarily going to be using bike for commuting. Been looking on Google and it looks like $300 may be steep for these bikes. I honestly don’t mind the price but I want to make sure I’m not getting too upcharged, any opinions? Are these fair prices to come from an actual shop?

Also, at these non-profit/community places, are prices typically negotiable?

And if yall could give me a list of some questions to ask (and potentially answers to look for) I would really appreciate it. I want to make sure they’re worth the money, but really any advice is appreciated.

Thanks yall! Appreciate any feedback, this bike stuff is confusing lol

  1. $300 for any quality steel frame bike in nice working order is a pretty good deal. Assuming from a shop they’ve given these a tune-up (could run you $150ish on its own).

For commuting, make sure it fits (58cm or XL for 6’1″ should be fine) and will haul what you need it to. I like a rear rack at least….

    I don’t think you’re overpaying for either.

  2. i have no issue with either of these bikes, they’re similar enough that choosing the one you like better is the right move.

make sure they fit. 6’1″ is pretty tall, but old bikes can be really hard to be comfortable on if you dont get the fit right. I’d definitely test ride them if I were you, these days some people in your size are even riding a 56 depending on the bike
