In Eastern Europe there are similar looking flies that also chase you during hot summer days. To a point that you have to stop and kill them and wait while they disappear away. Their bites are very painful and last for long time. Horse-fly and deer-fly. Both can carry some diseases, though, it's very rare cases.
Have you tried to cycle on"Al's" bike? You two should make a comparison video of pros and cons with the different bikes 😇Ps, thanks for another great video 👍
I already told Al that I had a bit of a chuckle when you guys meet Tsetse and his million mates first time I see you lose it proper – sorry.You know why there was no people there 🤣 Pity you didnt record the hyenas whooping and giggling iconic sound of Africa that if you wildscamp and hear them again would be great if you could record it. Super climb through the clouds brilliant descent. A bit sad that you travel through Africa and dont get to see Kili but it is what it is still seeing some fab sights !
Thanks for sharing your awesome journey. Brings back lots of memories from a similar trip I did a lifetime ago – the kids faces, the cries of "Hello Mazungu", the wild camping, the sheer delight of tarmac – you capture it all beautifully. What is that camera mount you are using on your bike – is it homemade? And do you charge any of your devices as you go – Solar? Dynamo? – or only when you reach a town/city. Following winds Patrick and look forward to the next instalment!
Holy cow! What a journey! The Tsetse flies – yikes! And the gravel road. But those views! Holy Toledo. Such a mixture of wonderful and difficult and fun and really really not fun all mixed in together. Such a great feeling to do something difficult and conquer it and be all, "That ain't so bad." Kids in East Africa are always so friendly. I remember walking through the streets of Stone Town in Zanzibar in the pitch dark (the electricity would be switched off at about 9 o’clock at night) on my way back to my ship after an evening out and being surrounded by happy, smiling faces all shouting “Jambo! Jambo!”.

At night wild camping what protection did you have with wild game am sure a fire outside the tent would be a good idea. With the bloody flies maybe two t shirts some insect spray am not sure just guess but god what a journey brilliant videos man.
That is a national park … It is called KATAVI NATIONAL PARK.. actually Tanzania has 22 National parks, and 32 game reserve.. and all are accross the country its just that few famous ones like kilimanjaro, ngorongoro creater, Serengeti are widely known, but the Katavi National Park actually has lions, Buffalo, and other spicies and it is the only national park in Tanzania that has white giraffe. And that is one of the national parks around the southern highland regions .. because there some more … Like Ruaha National park… And so much more.
