    I think this can happen if your cassette wasn’t tightened properly (not tight enough or under the torque spec).

  2. Aluminum HG freehub body and steel cassette cogs will do this. It’s not the end of the world but as time goes on it’ll make getting the cassette on and off difficult unless you file down the ridges.

    To prevent this in the future try and get a steel freehub body.

  3. If your lock ring isn’t tightened to 40 Nm, I believe the cogs will wiggle back and forth, and every time you crank down, it will bend until things start breaking apart. I can also say you live in a flat area and only use 4 or 5 gears, while the rest of the cogs are essentially one piece out of an 11 or 12 speed setup.

  4. File them flat and ride on. It always seems to happen with alu hubs and Shimano cassettes. I use a lot of 11 speed and have some Hunt wheelsets – the older hubs all have this to some degree.

    Common problem; bad design. It’s the combo of very short splines (minimal surface area) and a hard metal cassette against a relatively soft metal freehub. One solution is a better cassette that spreads the load by putting the sprockets on a carrier, or to use a different system… Campagnolo for example is still aluminum but their splines are way larger which prevents this (but unfortunately, different sprocket spacing). Shimano moving to microspline is also a solution. But you have what you have so you just live with it.

  6. Steel cassette on aluminum hg freehub. HG doesn’t have enough splines so force is higher. It’s fucking annoying. File the burrs down and tighten the lockring to 40nm.

    As others have said, bad design. But maybe you have a habit of grinding on high gears?
