Why Mercedes Is Abandoning Germany For Hungary (70% Cheaper)
Mercedes-Benz is shifting more vehicle production to Hungary, where manufacturing costs are reported to be up to 70% lower than in Germany. The move reflects growing pressure from high labor and energy costs, as automakers seek to remain competitive during the global transition to electric vehicles.

Let's drive down wages so every worker is a slave.
56.60 a HOUR ?
THATS UNION EXTORTION KIND OF MONEY WHEN THE CAR WAS POPULAR AND RELEVANT. PRIDE COMES BEFORE A FALL.
$56.00 Is TRULY PRIDEFUL DEMAND FOR A ERA LONG GONE. HUMBLE YOURSELVES GERMANS AND TAKE WHAT THE GOING RATE REALLY IS NOT YOUR EXTORTION DIGIT WHEN THEY HAD RELEVANCE IN LUXURY MARKET. If they LEAVE YOU DESERVE IT FOR EXTORTING THEM.
FYI @theelectricviking

Shame Germany wants to use expensive energy to compete with the rest of the world and therefore be un competitive. Fall out with its neighbors, keep supporting war and expensive energy at the expense of its own productivity and people. Well Germany you have got what you wished for and I hope you are happy with your sanctimonious actions as you deserve all you get. The sooner you collapse as an economy due to your recent actions the better.
An hourly rate of €15.60 comes out to roughly €32,448 per year
The average earnings for a Mercedes-Benz production line worker range from €34,000 to €55,000.
My "Italian" 2024 FIAT is 40% made in Hungary, & 35% made in Italy, according to the required-in-USA content label. However, that may just be the SamsungSDI batteries from their Hungary plant. Either way I love the car, & it seems at least a bit better built than my Mexican 2013 500e.

Looks like what North American went through in the 90's.
They lost their cheap energy (Russia gas), hadn't made much of a profit in Germany in at least a decade, lost their cash cow (China market), now the Chinese are taking a portion of the European market. There's no where left to turn.
The problem is that in vw, Mercedes, bmw, the labour unions are part of the direction of the companies in Germany. For example, vw have in direction 18 parts with 10 unions, 2 part of the Bavarian government and remaining with the brand. This is why the plan to fire 150.000 workers until 2030 was blocked…. It will be very hard to make decisions…
It appears the Germans are now officially too rich to be employable as car manufacturers. It's the end of an era. If the market price of German car workers is over US$60 per hour, that could only be because there are other jobs they could switch to that will pay them about as much. If not, it would be stupid to reject salary cuts. But if they are rejecting salary cuts, they must have different jobs to switch to, so I guess we're about to see what those jobs are. They are apparently the last in a proud tradition of excellent German car makers, and I wish them the best!
Hungary is not that far from Munich
Electronic sicknotes have only done one thing: made the unofficial numbers official through easier reporting. People stayed at home when sick rather than coming in with much reduced productivity and infecting others at work. This has nothing to do with how easy it is to report sick leave. There are other reasons, among which a working culture with often inhumane pressure, extremely dictatorial bosses, management by fear, and general lack of actual management. German managers are among the worst in Europe. Other countries have even easier systems for reporting sickness (Sweden for instance) and have lower sickleave levels. Why? Managers actually manage, care about people and that brings commitment in result.
Buy Chinese! Stop buying from racist American and European companies 🙂
There is a car manufacturer in Germany that not only makes money but does if with local suppliers in Europe and environmental sound water and fuel usage. It is called Tesla. So it is possible to make cars in Germany with European suppliers and German labor and make money. The problem lies with car companies and labor unions.
No human can beat automation and robots.
Hands off workers money. They Are only ones at truly earn it
Unfortunately, Germany and Europe are run by completely incompetent people and soon we will see not only the outflow of companies but also the collapse of the economy. I wrote to them 10 years ago that this policy is not working and will lead to the collapse of Europe
Labor cost may be 70% lower in Hungary, NOT production costs.
Production costs include:
– Depreciation on the machinery, buildings and land
– Power (electricity and sometimes natural gas for heat)
– Logistics: moving parts and cars from place to place
– Management/administration costs
– Municipal taxes
If it's impossible to build profitable cars in Germany, because of wage costs, regulations and energy costs, how is it that Tesla can make cars profitably there?
You are truly fully versed on the state of the industry. Watch DAILY!
If only Germany had access to cheap reliable energy they could be competitive again. Oh that's right, Biden blew up those pipelines. (Lol) Good luck staying competitive buying American gas at 4 times the price.

You neglected to mention the difference in the cost of energy between Hungary and Germany. All those ev’s will be built using Russian gas. Ofc Hungary also has lots of solar , and the cars will save much more emissions tha n they produce, but it’s still a bit funny
Believe German residential power is 3x that of Hungry as well 😢
The decisions were made long before, it's a strategy.
I have been working for a planned project in Hambach.
Mercedes decided a few months before serial start to transfer that project to Kecskemét, and that was in 2020!
We see the rolling out of the neocapitalism, the plans have long been made.
Wow, I’m old enough to see what the Japanese manufacturers did to the British car industry happen to the German car industry. I’m not sure how I feel about this, I have owned several German cars which have been fantastic but they were asleep at the wheel.
The salary you earn should at least cover life's everyday expenses. What it shouldn't do, is send your employer broke due to being above national standards.
Unionised labour have great wages and lots of rights. It's great for them, but not the company. It's better to accept slightly lower pay if it means keeping your job.
The financial bottom line doesn't care about your expectations. If you're too expensive, they'll bid you farewell.
Why does it have to be made in Germany. At the end Germans or Chinise we are all humans. Its true most of the tech started in Germany but it was not the country who did the job. It was the people. I was a mercedes dealer tehnician for 16 years . I love technology and quality but to me they were never German, they were made by humans.
When you said Hungarians work more hours, I was expecting to hear 50-60hrs/wk, not 40😂
