In 1988, Colin Sturgess set a legendary 10-mile time trial record of 18:48 on a standard road bike. Today, Alex, Si, and Ollie are attempting to beat that historic benchmark by working together as a team on the world-class Orbea Orca Aero. To pull this off, they’ll need to maintain an average speed of over 31.5mph on the famous R10/17 course in South Wales—watch to see if modern tech and teamwork can overcome one of cycling’s toughest records.

  1. Colin Sturgess set that incredible 18:48 record solo on 1980s tech. Now that you’ve seen our 3-man effort, who do you think is more impressive: the legendary individual or the power of modern aerodynamics? Let us know your thoughts (and your own 10-mile PB) in the comments! 👇

  2. Guys, you were following a camera motorbike a few metres ahead for a lot of the ride, plus the big bus that close behind also confers a drafting advantage.
The standard fine for drafting behind a vehicle in the Tour de France is 200 CHF for a rider, alongside a mandatory 20-second time penalty in the general classification. Penalty Breakdown – Rider Fine: CHF 200. Time Penalty: 20 seconds added to the general classification. UCI Ranking Points: Deduction of 15 points.
Team Car/Driver Fine: The team sports director or driver responsible for the vehicle can face an additional fine ranging from CHF 200 to CHF 1,000, and team vehicles can face expulsion for repeat offending.
    Sorry, it doesn't stand 😮😂

  3. Colin Sturgess rode the Essex Divis as an 18 year old I think. On the first lap iirc he got away with Gary Baker. They stayed away for the entire race while the field behind fragmented. Unsurprisingly, Gary did him in the sprint. At the time, none of us really knew who Colin was 😂

  4. Yeah looked a bit sketchy . Got lucky with the roundabout which could of been make or break. New Challenges err . "The Mercian Way" not sure if there is a record for that ? And deff do "Badlands "

  5. Best time I ever got was on a 114 miler with four significant mountains with a group of about 20 riders. We worked together almost all day and my average was 21mph for the day. Wish I could do that now😂

  6. The race of truth !!! …. My 10 mile (solo) PB was 21:55, and this was back before ‘aero’ was invented 😂😂 …. Can’t get close to that now … I conclude that aero bikes are rubbish 😂

  7. funny, I've been riding for 37 years and almost everyone in our group, would spend hundreds of dollars to shave a pound off their bike. when all of us, at any time, could stand to lose 20 pounds off our bodies. so being the cheap one in our group, that's the path I took. 🤔😅

  8. When I was in high school (1974), my friends and I would wait near a bus stop, and when they pulled away, we quickly got behind it and drafted it up the road to school. Diesel exhaust was horrible

  9. even if this yery motorway looking road might not technically be one (idk and to be honest i am too lazy to look it up) – why on earth would you want to cycle on a road like this? even if it might be technically legal? cars, trucks, noise, stress, airquality – it would take a gun to my head to make me ride there

  10. YEAH for Connor!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once again – he helped the Super Nerds to a win!!!!! WTG Ollie!!!! Not getting dropped and two wins on effectiveness! Let's face it nerds – you NEED Connor!!!!! Super fun video guys – and love the additional info your pedals gave you! Super nerdy cool!

  11. Betcha that Si beats Alex on W/kg! Si is lean like spaghetti but strong like a tree. Alex has a lil' more arm and shoulder – has to be able to use a torque wrench from time to time 😉

  12. Guys – What are the watts/kg!! Wouldn’t Ollie smash it with those raw power numbers weighing less than the average Great Dane?

As always super fun to watch you nerds smash a challenge 🎉
