as a birb occupying a frail and malfumpctioning hooman host body, i find that riding a bike is already the closest to flight of all the things i can do by myself. i would absolutely love to get a couple takes with that contraption!

To be honest, it's probably more safe than a regular 1-person aircraft (thinking small prop plane, not something like a fighter jet).

I am sure that if such craft ever became popular, a licence would be required to fly one.
You can fly any foot launched aircraft without a licence, such as a powered paraglider.
British engineering is ace!

The reason you kept veering left is an oldie and a goldie in recreational aviation.
To sum it up in a word; propwash.
On your flying bike, and on every other light aircraft on the planet, when facing forwards, the propellor spins clockwise. With enough thrust, or enough forward motion, this induces a similar rotational current in the air behind it. This current sinks as you proceed behind the propellor; by the time you reach the vertical tailplane, the bottom edge of the current, flowing right-to-left (same forward-looking pov), sits below the tailplane, whilst the top edge of the current (flowing left-to-right) is directly intersecting it. This forces the tailplane right, thus forcing the nose of the plane left. To counter this, pilots must apply excess right-rudder liberally to maintain straight flight. It appears you could've benefitted from knowing this little factoid of air theory.
Thanks for explaining pitch and yaw. Now I can set up my Hotas easier for Microsoft flight simulator. I didn't know what yaw was.
