Day 4 on the Camino de Santiago – Via Podiensis takes me across the vast Aubrac Plateau, walking from Sauvage to Aumont-Aubrac in southern France. This stage of the Le Puy Camino is known for its wide-open landscapes, quiet roads, rolling pastureland, and deep solitude.
Leaving the remote Domaine de Sauvage, the Camino stretches out under big skies as the trail crosses the heart of the Aubrac. Stone walls, grazing cattle, and long, steady miles define this day. There are fewer villages and fewer distractions—just walking, reflection, and the rhythm of the pilgrimage.
Arriving in Aumont-Aubrac brings a gentle return to town life, food, conversation, and rest. After the isolation of the plateau, it’s a welcome pause before continuing west on the Camino.
