Melbourne e-bike riders are learning the hard way about a new zero-tolerance approach from police. Illegal imports and high speeds are being targeted and leading to swift arrests.

These must be stopped altogether. Only pushbikes should be allowed.
why are they including a medical professional's statement? of course they complain about injury cases being on the rise. to them, a person killed in a car crash on the scene is preferred to an injury by an ebike or any bike for that matter. a death on the scene will instead go to a coroner meaning no treatment for them to perform at all while an injury requires them to do their job. injury means more work to them. if a government enforced a policy resulting no more injury for medical professionals to treat in one particular field, that would only mean one thing, everyone ever had a hiccup in that field would be dead. that outcome should be avoided at all cost. so no need to listen to medical professional's whiny about too many injury cases. that's better than the alternative which is death.
Ban uber doordash and Menulog for sure no more food delivery by e bike, only car your food not gonna arrive on time maybe can't eat anymore cause the food already cold.
A lot people in Australia fucking lazy to buy food for them self
The only reason these combustible contraptions are allowed is to push 'the message'.
The nanny state – in full effect.
Arrested for riding a bike. Lol!
Can you believe your taxes go to pay for someone who works at Victoria Walks! What is that!!???
They are banning them and telling mouth breathers that wow its dangerous lol there's more car crashes than e bike crashes why don't they ban cars!? Rego lol aka $$$$ lol if they can't fleece money off you they dont care if its eco friendly lol hilarious from a woke Vic government
People are so silly lol follow the money 😂😂😂 and it explains everything not the main stream media brain wash spin oh we banning them for your safety. Lol same with we giving speed tickets for safety mate its all about the $$$$ can't have 2 many people travelling around cities not supporting the registrations
Excellent. Those food delivery riders don't follow our road rules and can't drive/ride for shit. Their ebikes also don't have licence plates unlike motorbikes.
Imagine being hit by one, only for them to flee the country before you or the police can get hold of them.
See. These E bikes and scooters actually need to be registered in China and must be at least 16 years old to use them.
So it’s completely on the Australian government for allowing them to enter the country in the first place.
deliver drivers there not the issue. its the kids on the e-dirt bikes i see them everywhere in the city on the foot paths and in the suburbs . I walk past the Exhibition Centre every day and see 5-6 everyday, bikes and scooters mono wheel things too.
what a joke, Australia cant even keep Terrorist's organizations out of the country. and there worried about E bikes…
Victorian tax payers are forking out $1 million an hour just to cover the interest on the corrupt governments reckless spending but yes ebikes are the top priority to distract you from realizing you have no money left to feed your family.
Deport all e-bike delivery riders. They’re illegally took our kids job.
Not all e-bike crashes are the fault of riders, the number people I see who blindly walk out of a shop or across a road without looking with their attention/noses buried in a cell phone is equally to blame
Have a closer look at those "e-bikes" food delivery drivers use. The pedals aren't mechanically connected to the wheels. You can still use them to move the bike but it has none of the resistance you get from a real bike. Basically they are e-motorcycles that have pedals on them.
These crashes are mostly not by food delivery rider's what a joke
They and e scooters need to be banned immediately.
These people are riding on footpaths at high speeds.
These are also people who are too dumb to get a license.
They don’t understand road rules and think they belong on a footpath.
I know I’ve tried to tell them.
my bike got stolen in melbourne cbd few days ago and the police dont care about it, and now they are arresting bike owner, what a joke
Police are targeting those who are doing delivery for their living, but not those who are modifying their e-bike and drive like mad…What is the Vic Gov even doing.
There is a huge rise in the number of e-bikes so the number of accidents must rise proportionately. The rules are NOT simple. They are not even consistent. They are arbitrary and capricious. I don't use an e-biike but I still note a lack of philosophy behind bureaucratic bungles. But there is so much more. Pedestrians claim that bikes on the footpath are illegal and unsafe. True enough. But for the BIKES? Try riding on city road with a pushbike and see if you survive. The alternative routes that USED to exist were closed by the council and given over to Southbank. Yes the situations are dangerous. They shouldn't be dangerous. But blaming the victims is a poor idea.
They can’t banned e bikes to be shipped to Australia because some people have private property to ride them on and motocross tracks so they can’t.
There’s heaps of vehicles that are illegal to be ridden/driven on our roads but we don’t blanket ban their import. I’m so tired of government overreaction to things! Let’s look at legal cars: every day in Australia, over 5000 people are caught speeding. Caught! Now add to that the thousands more who broke our road rules and got away with it? Are we going to ban all cars now? There are about 5 fatalities daily and hundred of car crashes resulting in hospitalisation. Are we going to ban all cars? Clearly drivers can’t be responsible to use their vehicles legally and choose to use them illegally, therefore every can must be banned. If this cop wants to be able to effectively police, then he needs more manpower and to do that, the government needs to invest in more police, which requires a bigger monetary investment in this country. Instead of Victoria’s absurd monetary waste and our federal government sending our hard earned tax to overseas nations, they could spend it here, on core needs: education, safety and security. I suppose that’s too much to ask for and it’s easier for these cops to pull over and charge that delivery driver in the video and say all electric bikes should be banned. I mean, that’s easier than getting more money out of the government to spend on policing and going after the more serious criminals out there. Right?
Lets see if we can get those numbers up to 250.
It was about time for law enforcement to take control of the abuse of e-bikes. The technology is not the problem, but the people using it beyond what the e-bike regulations indicate to keep people safe in public spaces.
Yeah, fine people working for a living so you could have more junkies .
Come and get me lol
I do maintenance work and I'm on the footpath and this electric bike comes past faster than the cars, the young guy isn't even wearing a helmet. I had earmuffs on and didn't hear anything. Would have been a nasty accident. Just saw him at the very last moment. So close to massive accident.
this is absolutely ridiculous, stopping delivery drivers from doing their jobs
46 seconds, car from the right is already halfway across the intersection and the bike try’s to avoid it by going down the tram tracks. The bike may have run a red light, don’t know.
49 seconds white SUV pulls out illegally and should have given way to traffic on the right. Small white car on the right had to almost stop because of the SUV. The bike should have not overtaken the cars infront.
ALL E bikes, E scooters and EV cars should not be allowed to enter Australia period!
You crack down on food delivery drivers, this means you crack down on obesity! That’s Heavy!
Police force has gone retarded
make all of them pay a (smaller) annual registration like cars, motorcycles and vespas have to.
also make them sit a basic test ~ make them accountable.
it’ll help pay their medical fees at Glen Waverley TAC rehab centre.
it’s not so much the delivery people; it’s the little turds that ride them like motorbikes on bike paths and in between tram tracks that are the main problem.
FUCK CARS.
All I see are evil planet hating cunts killing their own children with their insatiable lust for sucking big oil's dicks because the flesh of future generations tastes delicious.
Road bikes go 60kph without a motor and have shit brakes.
They need no rego or insurance.
Cops and laws are there to protect rich people's property so they can continue to murder us with their unsustainable lifestyles.
The more illegal it is the cooler and more popular they will make it.
Education is the answer to ALL problems.
Imaging being a cop and coming home to tell your boyfriend that you stopped kids on e-bikes real hero’s aren’t you🤣
The law makes should do food delievery before make laws
MIGRANTS NEED TO PAY HOTEL BILLS
Stop whining about targeting delivery drivers. They can easily avoid being targeted by getting those bikes a license and insurance!
I think it’s got more to do with
The lack of
REVENUE
live in geelong no problems there! cops dont give a crap!
f u pple in the comments!!!
Keep banning tools normal people use, instead of the madman who used them incorrectly. 👏👏👏
