Frame cracked

Is that a seatstay or a chainstay?

Hard to tell if it’s a crack or crease but either way that hole is concerning. Looks like porosity or maybe bad paint job.

That’s a pretty high stress area if it is a crack though so if you do ride it just keep an eye on it regularly, maybe draw a circle with sharpie around it to see if the crack is getting bigger

Just looks like a shitty weld or weld finish. Not cracked in my opinion from the pic.

I had a similar crack in my neuron last year but along the chain stay. They wanted the whole bike mailed in but I stripped it and sent in the frame only. I was worried I’d end up getting screwed but they ended up cutting me a check as they were no longer making that generation. It took some time (a month or so) and so I bought a new bike in the mean time.

Engineer here. Like others said it looks like a poor weld that wasn’t cleaned up. Normally the welder, if they saw this, would grind and polish the surface down a little bit to remove the fracture because it can propagate later.

If they have to remove too much of a layer they’d have to scrap it and start over for something like this, a commercial item where a customer can get hurt.

I recommend taking it to an AWS certified welder and have them give you their opinion. It might be possible to clean it up.
