We set the team the ultimate cheap bike challenge: buy a second-hand race bike for under £750 and put it to the test in a full-gas local crit race! From a 20-year-old Trek Madone to a classic Cannondale SuperSix Evo, their bargain-hunting led to some brilliant finds, highly questionable upgrades, and a few sketchy tubular tires. Watch to find out who actually bagged the best deal, what the race commissaires had to say, and who had the legs to take the win!

If you had a strict budget of £750, what second-hand bike would you try to buy for a local crit race? 👇
Picked up that model of Storck for just over a grand a couple of months back – Thought I'd done well! Ollie got an immense deal there.
Durianrider is salivating right now
Alex, I bought the 5.9 a couple years ago for my wife to ride. In 2005 Trek made another frame . 5.9 SL. That didn’t have the Finn. I love the Finn. Lance thought the bike with the Finn was too stiff.
The edit and camera work during the bike reveals was a bit jarring and all over the place 😅
I'm gonna go with Ollie's bike as my favorite of that lot.
I myself just scored an Emonda from the same era for ~ £450 /$600 with a very light aluminum Mavic wheelset, whole affair was £2.25k/$3k new ten years ago. While it lacks Dura Ace, the full Shimano 11 speed Ultegra groupset is lightyears ahead of the Sora and knockoff Tektro on the bike the Emonda replaced and weighs only 7.2 kg with my pedals and bottle cages on it. When I finish selling off the spare parts, along with the proceeds from the old bike, it is more or less revenue neutral, so not as good a price as Alex got but pretty dang good.
I love this. Thanks for sharing
6:45 Jimothy spotted on the pitch!
Storck No way 750 pounds 😮❤🎉
I once met Alex in Bath where GCN are based and it was a shame. He was apathetic and didn’t seem to care when I said I was a fan of the channel and took interest in what they were up to. I hope GCN see this as a reminder that without the viewers GCN doesn’t exist. Maybe Alex woke up on the wrong side of the bed that day and I’m sure he’s a great guy but I got really excited to see them and left feeling a bit disappointed.
it's funny how video after video they brainwash the cycling community making them slaves of the brands, products and tendencys, the thing is no matter what they do, gcn can't stop the chinese brands
Did Si say, "Alex Payton and his 20-year-old Trek Madone are your CHEAT bike Challenge winners" ? 😂
also, how did Ollies $11000 bike lose???
GCN leans into their OG Top Gear style and they nail it every time.
ㅋㅋㅋ내가 10년전에 타던 자전거네 슈퍼식스에보
1. Si
2. Conor
3. Olly
Alex is DQ’d and he has to donate the £750 to feed the poor.
Conor’s bike is the coolest, but not the fastest.
The Trek Madone 5.2 is my bike except it does not have the aero fin. Mine is from 2007.
Maybe next time Alex shows up with (well, we shouldn't maybe call it cheating but…) perhaps a bike acquired under dubious circumstances, he has to trade with one of the other presenters? Spread all those dura ace bits from parts bins around a little, no?
No tbuying a bike he should be fired. The purpose of the video is to show what people can buy for 750 pounds
“you can’t polish a turd.”
I would like to Name your team
“Team Rimbrake”
So impressed that you keep coming up with brilliant challenge ideas!
So much fun to see the lads on budget old bikes (well, Ollie's was more suspect than Alex's 🤓)
Another fantastic video. Super fun.
Why is Si wearing Anti-Thrombus Stockings? Is it to minimise the swelling in the ankles?
Everyone knows red goes faster. It was just a confidence problem 😀
I think you should test these bikes on the mountain too
GCN has gone downhill in the last few years .
All all you have are the presenters trying to be a professional rider and racing each other.
There is nothing in this channel for the over 55 year olds to help help them with there cycling
You missed out on my specialised tarmac comp for £400!
You fellows are absobloodylutely great fun together! Carry on!😄
Alex "Open your mouth in preparation of amazement" I nearly died laugh choking on my lunch
I'll miss Alex when he's thrown in jail for embezzlement.
Points for Alex staying on brand and cheating on a bike known for carrying the biggest cheaters in the sport with one of his many "acquired" Dura-ace's; just need to wait for the follow up video where he denies it all on Oprah before Si conducts an internal investigation to find another 100+ components "embezzled" in his bike shed drawers……… Connor however loses points for not staying on-brand and having a panier installed…..
If Alex agrees to sell that Trek to me for £750 as is then I'll overlook the blatant cheating and give him the win!
What tyre width were you all on? 25's are okay 👍
You need to do a challenge that suits Olly! I feel sorry for him as everything is high intensity and he clearly doesn’t have the legs for it!! Also you need to swap bikes and do it again! Or the next challenge buy a bike for someone else! Like a secret Santa theme! Amazing content though guy! Keep it coming!!
Clearly it is Conners BMC! This was my dream bike at that time, BECAUSE of the unique design, which was quite typical for BMC bikes at that time. And before a model change I was able get the frame in black/white in y size, went down the road for complete Dura Ace group set and DT Swiss 1450 mon chasseral wheels it was an ultimate climbing bike on which spent many hours and archived some big cycling goals! I still have it, was being used by my son until a couple of days ago. And I tell you what: I won't sell it for 750 whatever currency! 😉
2018 Scott foil, haggled it down to £600 from a rich man who had just bought a y1rs. For a carbon frame, ultegra groupset, integrated front end, chinese carbon wheels and a nice 8.1 kgs I cant complain and its a massive upgrade from my aluminium frame. On a uni student budget very happy with myself.
GCN top gear
I have to give the coolest bike to Si. I still have one of those (2014 Cannondale SuperSix Evo, Ultegra) that has been living on my Wahoo Kickr since its frame is a little compromised after a decade of abuse and a couple of crashes.
Storck all the time, for that price?! Something was wrong there with the seller…
Good to see cheats still riding trek discovery channel bikes 😂
aren't most tpu tube valve stems flexible?
Didn't Graeme Obree make 'old faithful' for a £100? 😉
Top Gear vibes happening in this video. Cheers mates!
