Dog parking 🤣
Tres Bon Peter. I usually save baguette emojis for… let’s just say another channel, nevertheless chapeau monsieur. 🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖
Loved this adventure, thanks for bringing it to us. I live in the dysfunctional USA and a trip like this is a dream for me. Always appreciate your channel. Good job Mr. Treadway
Great video. Doing something similar, just booked ferry crossings in a few weeks time to Dieppe for a days cycling along the avenue verte. Just doing a 200K. Can’t wait, just put posts out to find a mate to come along.😂
Brilliant adventure, and thank you for the break down. Very useful information. Thanks for sharing.
No such thing as a tailwind Peter
A few years ago in was on a very long climb and a guy on a passing car shouted "courage, le pire est fini." This was before I had a computer with climbs. He was lying, there was a final stretch of 12% still missing. 😅
Loved that Pete….making memories with a mate…cycling doesn’t get better than that 👍
🚴♂👀🥐
I have been thinking of doing a trip like this for a while, but I would want to ride down to Dover too. I did look at taking the bike on the channel tunnel because I thought that would be easier but seems like you can't do that without booking months in advance for a spot on a minibus – unless they changed it.
I live in a village just outside Dover, I will have to give this a bash, do you have the gpx file to share, Let us all know when you are doing it again?
Looks like your mate has pulled the local drunk😂😂
Great adventure. I can definitely recommend Brittany ferries overnight ferry either Portsmouth – St Malo or Plymouth – Roscoff. Straight off the ferries into Bretagne Classic terrain.
did you buy your ferry tickets in advance or on the day. especially on the return
Great video Pete! I'd love to see more of these.
Pretty cheap as well
If running out of water look for a cemetery as there is always a tap with drinking water outside near the entrance.
All good cycling adventures start with a ferry …….. oh hang on, thats cos I live on the Isle of Wight 😂
I’m not sure on Northern France, but everywhere I’ve been in Normandy and Brittany is very much closed on a Sunday. In the rural places thats pretty much everything, cafes, supermarkets, boulangeries, even the Spar type shops.
What a great idea for a different day out on the bike. I will suggest this as a group ride with my club. Thanks Peter!
Nice. Envious
French adventures are great. We got the train down from Lincolnshire to Poole for the ferry to Cherbourg. Then 6 days across France, Belgium and Holland for Rotterdam via lots of D-Day history. Got the Rotterdam ferry back to Hull and just a 50 mile ride across the Humber bridge to get home. Great cycling and lots of continental beer and food.
I've gone over with the bike 3 times from Dover. The road surfaces and driver behaviour is far superior in France. Cyclists are given massive respect too. I'd recommend it totally.
Great video of our trip mate 👌
Dominiqua messaged, she asked why she's not listed as a collaborator?
I am not sure what, if any, the laws are in France about cars and cyclists but in Germany for example in town a car has to give cyclists 1.5m space when passing and 2m in the countryside. It’s the law and cyclists have priority.
I've cycle toured with tent many times to catch a northern stage of the Tour de France (not this year '26 as it's south of France biased). Yes, it is of course exciting to embark on a cycle trip in France. One day is ok but my bugbear with France is places to eat. I often think as a cyclist you could starve in France. Limited opening days, limited hours. The roads can be very long and straight too, which psychology can wear you down. I've stopped at a couple of places with a big neon sign proclaiming 'Café' and that's all. No food, not even a bag of crisps – just coffee….
Car drivers can afford to keep distance from bikes etc. in Northern France because the population density is so low in comparison with most of the UK. No endless oncoming cars preventing a car to overtake so when they do they don't have to squeeze you.
where can i find the gpx you put together for this route 🙂 looks good
What a great ride, thanks for filming and sharing your journey. I can totally relate to the headwind thing, why is it always head on no matter which direction you're traveling in. One of life's little mysteries 😂
I believe all cemeteries in France have potable water to drink if you run out of liquid
Great video, Peter. Was wondering if I'd catch you at thr Stortford 100 Sportive. You've got some lovely roads near you, enjoyed it. Hope all is well mate
fair bit of bike traffic
25:38 but you could have saved fuel if you teleported in to the car park like that bloke behind you 😅
Brilliant lads.
