After losing 40kg, I wanted to see how far I could push myself. So, my cousin and I took on the ultimate cycling test: the Way of the Roses. This video chronicles our 170-mile journey on our Brompton folding bikes, proving that small wheels can handle a big adventure. From the seaside town of Morecambe to the finishing line at Bridlington, we’re putting ourselves—and our bikes—to the test.
Day 1: Our adventure begins! We pedal from Morecambe into the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, tackling serious climbs and taking in the breathtaking views of the Yorkshire Three Peaks on our way to Appletreewick.
Day 2: We start with a bang, climbing 300 meters up to Greenhow Hill, the highest point on the route. From there, we’ll cruise through the beautiful Nidderdale and into the Vale of York.
Day 3: The final push! Leaving York, we ride across the scenic Yorkshire Wolds, through valleys and farmlands. This last day covers 100km, including some off-road sections that really put our legs and bikes to the test as we make our way to the finish line.

nice trip as it so happens on friday im about do just under half of that ride going to morcambe not been able ride properly in few years health conditions so iv baght e bike kit for my mountain bike given me whole new lease of life annyway all the best hope to see more adventures Ian

You may do anything, like on an ordinary bike, on a Brompton. It just takes more power to do it, as the small wheels are heavy rolling compared with ordinary size bike wheels! A Brompton is primarily bought for transport as folded! I love my now very much extra SuperlightM6LXBrompton, around 9 kilos with mudguards, but it is a horrible "bike"!!
What tyres did you use on this travel and did you get any/many punctures?
Thanks for posting this. I did the Way of the Roses a few years ago with my youngest son. It is a stunning route. Your video brings back lovely memories. It is impressive to see that it can so readily be done on Bromptons.
Great video, and fantastic music choices. Thanks for uploading. We supposed to do this ride last year (also with our Bromptons) but we abandoned the ride due to the typhoon with very gusty wind. Hopefully, next year we will have a better weather with us.

Great video, I cycled this route two years ago on a road bike. Can’t think of a more beautiful route than this one with tough climbs over the first half, stunning countryside.
Interesting concept cycling on a Brompton, how did find it weight distribution? I’d imagine most of the weight is on the front? Finally how did you find descending Greenhow hill, I found that to be scariest part hitting over 40mph 😂

Wow, well done lads, I love the Brompton’s. I have two Bromptons a 1994 and a 2000 both five speed modes and I love them both. They always amaze me and as people say, don’t be fooled by the small wheels. The filming and editing is brilliant and you both appeared to enjoy the journey. HI Brompton heroes! I did the Way of the Roses a few years ago but on a gravel bike. I only went as far as York though as I felt it may be hard to get transport back from Bridlington with my full sized bike. So I’m wondering how you managed with public transport back from Bridlington?
