  1. On another note: That left bolt looks suspiciously bent. Didn‘t you have any cone washers?

It is safe to right like this, because the load goes directly into the bolt. I’ve personally used a stack of washers on a downhill bike at 250 lb system weight with absolutely no issue for years.

But I would go for a proper adapter in the mid term anyway.

  3. Either get the correct adapter or run a 160mm rotor instead. This setup is questionable.

  4. IS mount brackets for different size rotors aren’t expensive or difficult to find, just buy the right size.

If the brakes are set up properly it’s probably fine. However I wouldn’t ride like this for longer than a few weeks

  6. As others have said, if the right adaptor exists. Id install that one. That being said, this is probably fine. I would make sure you’re using high quality bolts and washers (you need a shorter bolt up front) and make sure theyre properly tight. I’ve seen some heavy ass e-bikes that go to hell and back (door dash dudes) and some of those bikes use thin stamp steel and shitty adaptors and while the brakes have problems, the calipers coming off isn’t the issue.

If the right adaptor doesn’t exist, maybe draw something up in fusion360 and send it to a local machinist. That’d be some cool bling.

Which bike is this where you need to go 2 sizes up? I mean we all like bigger rotors but do you really need 180?

  8. Like everyone replying they did similar and it was fine didn’t crash and die. Survivorship bias…

Get the right adaptor. The calliper axis isn’t parallel with the disc circumference, your pads are gonna wear a weird lip at the trailing end.

That stacked adapter setup is sketchy, just grab the right one for a 180 rotor or drop down to a 160 and save yourself the headache.

Make sure the frame is ok with that disc, there’s usually an upper threshold for what kind of force it’s meant to handle. Shouldn’t be a big issue otherwise, adapters are just spacers for the bolt. I have ridden with just a stack of washers on a DH front disc and I still have all my teeth.

Probably it will be okay, but on critical parts I wouldn’t be greedy and just spend the 10€ for the correct adapter.

  13. Nope if there isn’t a proper adapter you shouldn’t be kludging multiple to do it.

In many cases there is no adapter because what you are trying to make work is outside what the frame can safely take.

  14. It’s safer than not having brakes, I suppose, but I wouldn’t rely on those.
Maybe settle for a smaller rotor?
