Do it. Buy the Brompton. This thing is so fun to ride, so smooth, so FAST compared to my hybrid bike. The folding mechanism takes a second to get used to, but once you get it, it’s seamless. Excited to start taking it on the metro, cafes, breweries and grocery stores!
This is the C-Line 12 speed – got it for the steep hills near me and I climbed them with ease – well, as easy as a steep hill can be, haha.

Brompton is a great compromise between a regular and folding bike.
I recently got mine 3 speed 2014 secondhand after thinking I wanted one. Let me tell you I definitely wanted it. It’s bloody fantastic. It’s so useful for exploring places and running errands for example Dropping the car at the garage bike home. It’s mega fun and quirky to ride.
You right about the fun, and the adventures without boundaries only add to that fun, enjoy!
