I did some Singletracks, Climbing, Road, a lot of Gravel, Construction sights, Forrests and places without Tracks.
After 2 days in the heat (36C/96,8F), I decided to do some changes – to maximize my possibilities for carrying Liquids.
Material:
The Deuter Gravelpack got some Hits at the Singletrack. I rode 300 km in Germany – those who know: equipment has tho suffer massive infrastructural problems.
Contents: Cooker, sleeping Stuff, First Aid, vitamins, liquids 0,3l – 1,5l sized, and clothes at the beginning of my trip.
Decathlon Framebag 9l and why the heck two different bottle cages?
I’m really impressed about the Framebag, I changed the original Straps because the 64cm/25,2 inch frame is simply bigger then the purpose decathlon thought about designing it, as it usually is a full frame. Of course it can get a bit wet in the inside if you let your hose of the bladder outside by rain. But it also dries fast.
Contains: 3l Camelback, a Lockchain, Sunscreen, Oil, 2 Peaches and Gloves.
The Black Bottlecage is great for Cans!
Before hitting a hilly part I could get a Can under the Framebag. I didn’t loose a single can, even under rough conditions.
The Top Tube Bag: Decathlon 900 advt.
nice to handle quick. Not a good place for an iPhone on bumpy underground but I usually have it in my jersey. I had a bag of beef jerky, my wallet and the case of my JBL Endurance Pro in there, when I had to charge something with the powerbank, I switched out stuff. Simple but great! Had some shower rains, kept insides dry.
Updates:
I chose to go with the Foodpouch of Fjallräven called Hoja – my decision was not based on a matching color, but of course I was happy for the match. The open/close mechanism is perfect and the extra space is amazing for snacks or for filming stuff on the road.
Finally:
Originally I Ordered the Cyclite aerobag, but my order got cancelled, Globetrotter had an overbooking order problem.
So I headed to good old Decathlon and got myself the the bag and cage for the bar on my way in Strasbourg. I am glad I made the decision as the decathlon ADV 900 (5-15l) can take triple the load of the Cyclite aerobag (4,9l). Also the Rig allowed me to dry things.
It stays super stable and has a valve to press out the air. The opening could be a bit larger, as you need a bit of time to compress the air out of the bag.
I hope this helps some others who want to start adventures, but also be clear:
I’m a tall dude 2m/6‘7ft 95kg or 210 lbs so my bikeframe can handle a lot of storage, just simply because of the Framesize.
Maybe this setup won’t fit exactly like this on your bike.
But as a tall guy I know there are not many guides for Bikepacking online. 🙂👍
