I know nearly nothing about road bikes or bikes in general other than I use to love to ride as a kid. I moved to the islands and I just bought a bike that is said to be my size. However the back tire the guy told me (he doesn’t speak much English) was flat.
After looking at the bike this is what the stem looks like which is unusual to me the front stem is normal..what would I do here? Thank you all in advance.

it’s normal. it’s called a “presta” valve.
It’s a normal Presta valve. You have to unscrew the top before pumping the tyre up.
