I have the 7.2 FX (17.5in for up to 5'7" I'm 5'10" ) and I've loved riding it over the last year or so (my first real bike), but I am realizing that it's ever so slightly too small I think. I could swap the handlebars for a bit of an extension and swept bars for pretty cheap from the parts bin. Alternatively, I've got a Cannondale quick 6 on marketplace for ~$250. I'm not sure how they compare off the rack but I know the Cannondale will fit me a little better (it's a large for 5'9"-6'2" and I'm 5'10")

My dad rides a cannondale quick and he loves it, If you interested it could be worth a test ride!

If that trek is too small for you then your saddle must be far too low. Usually the main issue you have with an undersized bike is that the drop down to the handlebars can be quite extreme when you have the saddle height set correctly, which can lead to wrist and neck pain especially. A larger size does move the bars out slightly, but mostly it raises up the front end to give you a more appropriate position for that range of saddle heights.

  3. 17-18″ bikes can work for people your height. Going by the seat height the FX looks about correct. Assuming you have it set up for a good amount of leg extension. In general getting a slightly small bike to fit is possible. Getting a slightly large bike to fit is more difficult because of limitations in the frame itself.

The quick looks like a barn find. Lightly used but could use at least some oil and grease. A tuneup from a neighborhood mechanic would be good. Light amount of rust. Looks like a 7 speed, entry level more like a FX 7.1. I would want the price to come down a good $50-100, maybe a little more if there are problems with shifting, brakes or any sort of odd noises.

There is little risk in trying the bike out. You can always say no after a test ride. Decent chance you can sell the FX for more than you will pay for the Quick.
