I originally cut my steerer tube 3mm below the stem for a flush top cap. I have a 10mm ACR spacer below the Ritchey Switch/ACR stem adapter. I plan to remove the spacer and slam the stem, and put 8mm total round spacers on top.
Questions:
-
Is it fine for me to run the 8mm spacers above? (2mm gap for topcap preload) Considering i’m using a cane creek ancora plug which is clearly long enough to still cover both stem bolt clamp areas even with the stem lowered, is that the only main issue to be addressed?

only just found out it seems to be a good practice to actually let the steerer tube stick out a little and put a 3-5mm spacer on top so that the stem has a full clamp on the steerer instead of leaving a little gap on the top which I originally did- which makes sense. Considering i ride a lot of gravel and under bike a lot on mountain bike trails, is it a better idea long term to actually put a 3-5mm spacer on top or even this current 8mm set up? Or is it fine with the flush top cap?

1. Yes it’s fine
2. Flush or not doesn’t make a difference, both are fine.
