I'm planning on biking from Bordeaux to Biaritz this October over 8 days. I'm hoping to craft a great route that incorporates vineyards, chateaux, villages, and country roads as well as the sights and splendor of the coast.
I know there's a lot of formal routes and I'm an avid user of cycle.travel, but I'm looking for any seasoned tips from those that have biked through this area.
What are some areas that shouldn't be missed and what are some spots that can be skipped?
Cheers and thanks in advance!

I’m new to the Bordeaux area, so not much experience, but have you thought of the [La Velodyssee](https://www.lavelodyssee.com/itineraire) (French section of the Euro velo route)?
Just got back from the region. I would suggest Bordeaux – Biganos – Dune de Pilat – Biscarosse and than onwards with eurovelo 1 (which is Velodyssee). Take some day time for Bayonne and Biarritz but sleep in St Jean de Luz on the municipal campsite. For grocery shopping their is a Lidl as well. For chateaux and vineyard I hope someone else can help you out.
That’s around 300km over 8 days, 40ish k a day is easy, 2 hours on a bad day. Find things to do on the way, you will have a lot of free time.
Just been from to Santander to Biarritz 3 weeks ago, and it’s a lot hillier that side.
Last October i rode Bilbao to Bordeaux. It was ace
Once i got to Biarritz I went to Bayonne, then followed the river Adour along the Eurovelo 3 to Dax, Mont de marsan and Berbotan les thermes.
I left the Eurovelo 3 and headed North cross country to Marmande on the Canal du midi, followed that toward Bordeaux for a bit, then some rail trails into the city. Through lots of vinyards and pretty towns.
Earlier in the year i had cycled La rochelle to Barritz on the Eurovelo 1, and while lots of lovely POIs on the route, it was a bit repetitive at times.
I also used cycle travel and it was very easy/intuitive.
Not long back from Spain to uk trip – through Picos, Pyrenees then up through France west of bordeaux. we found the EV1 along the coast fairly boring. It is mostly traffic free but often the path is of poor quality, tree routes and broken up. There is very little coastal riding, it’s a forest path not far off the coast but you see little. We were used to pretty villages but in that area it is large camping resorts rather than traditional towns. If I did it again I’d stay inland
