My scottish ancestors were part of the group that "settled" in Ulster. George Boyd Sr was born in Ulster, so was his son. They migrated to Pensyvania in the late 1600's. I'm not sure if I'll be able to track them back to where they originally lived in scotland. More than what wikipedia has to say, anyway lol
Your opening title about Protestant England shows a picture of King Henry VIII.
Although he broke from Papal authority, he remained Catholic in his theology.
Edward VI, his son, was the first Protestant monarch.
Why don't you relate how Ireland used to be non Catholic until the pope encouraged King Henry II to invade, requested as he was by deposed kings of Ireland.
Before that papal subjugation, Ireland had the Celtic culdee church of Patrick.
WHERE WERE YOU 58 YRS AGO..??? When the Nuns in Catholic school were beating me.. for saying 1903— tree One nineteen O tree.. Penguins.. .!! 3 is a # ..tree has leaved on it..!!
And became the original Wild Geese. They and their decendents populated positions of power and prestige in numerous European armies, that is the ones who survived assassination attempts by the Brits.
This is leaving out the fact that the plantations were started by Mary 1, the catholic monarch who ruled before Elizabeth 1, this doesnt fit with the normal rhetoric about the plantations
Genuine question I've been mulling over, maybe you learned guys can help? The plantation of Ulster was mostly by Scots and northern English like it says in the vid. Who were the Scotts ancestors and why did they speak a form of Gaelic?
I am a descendant of planters from Annan in Dumfries and Galloway, my mothers name was Melaney and my fathers name is Snowdon, I would like to apologise for my ancestors actions truly and sincerely. My family displaced the native Irish and eventually bred with the native gaels but with that action taken, I was born and I am trying my best to make up for their actions by learning Gaeilge and pushing wherever and however I can for Irish unity. Thanks for your videos.
Just worth mentioning a significant amount of people placed in Ulster were actually of Ulster origin, weโve known this for a while but recent genetic studies confirmed that Protestants with anglicised Celtic surnames are more Irish than the Catholics living in the north. A very small proportion are actually Germanic people. Borderers were forcibly converted just like many in the south, the king simply wanted what are now Ulster Scots out of the Anglo Scot border because they were a gigantic pain in the hole. They once travelled the entire way down south just to call the queen ugly and are responsible for the term blackmail. Letโs be honest theyโve always been a wee bit sociopathic
My ancestors were very likely among those Scotsโฆ I have a genetic link to Ulster as well as some Scottish DNA.
That is genuinely upsetting ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ๐คฆโโ๏ธ This was such a gross injusticeโฆ as a lifelong lover of Irish culture, this both infuriates me and breaks my heartโฆand makes me genuinely ashamed of the connection. We donโt get to choose our ancestors, unfortunatelyโฆ. But if itโs worth anything, know that at least some of their descendants are disgusted by them. Although Saint Patrick himself was Roman-British. He didnโt need โthe rightโ DNA in order to love and value the Irish people.
I have traced both my mom and dads name to have came from Ireland. But it was northern Ireland and we dont have Irish names. Thompson and Armstrong both from Northern Ireland before America.
republican propaganda. ulster and scotland have had ties going back millennia . the kingdom of dalriada (antrim and west scotland) existed long before any notion of an ireland. fun fact 20% of so called planters were catholics

There were actually some English and Scottish Catholic planters in various parts of Ulster . Particularly around Strabane

Where did the Earls go running to ?
Wow that's interesting we learn something new every day ๐๐
Cheers for the facts my man…
This is however another sorry chapter in our history. The effects of which continue to this day.
The history of Ireland is so complex.
The plantation of Ulster and America started at more or less the same time. The centuries of bigotry in both places have the same origins.
The flight of the Earls. They ran away.
England wasnโt broke at the end of the 9 year war. It was extremely wealthy. Probably due to the privateering.
And became the original Wild Geese. They and their decendents populated positions of power and prestige in numerous European armies, that is the ones who survived assassination attempts by the Brits.
Yawn yawn yawnโฆ.

O neil and o and fitz names were not irish but french names
Could the Scotโs from the south be considered settling ancestral land if the history of the scotti tribe is to be believed.
And Ireland's being invaded now and the politicians are doing it with a smile on their faces and calling the Irish people domestic terrorists

You never have real peace until the Britโs leave the north!
