Hey guys, I’ve been riding seriously for about two years and feel like I’ve outgrown my entry level hardtail. I’ve been looking for a short travel full suspension and narrowed it down to something like a Top Fuel or an Epic 8 EVO for the type of terrain I ride. Since my budget is limited, I’ve been shopping used.
I’ve been talking with the seller of this Epic 8 EVO Comp for the past few days. He sent additional photos, a walk around video, and a video showing the dropper post working.
I’m 6’1” with a 44 cm shin length and about 33” inseam. Specialized’s size calculator puts me on an XL, but my current bike is a Large (also a Specialized, but with much older geometry), so I feel like I’m right on the border between the two. Does anyone around my height have experience with a Large vs. XL Epic?
Also, do you guys see any red flags in these photos? Is there anything else I should ask for before making the drive or negotiating? He’s asking $2,750.

Really the only way to know is to pedal it. Probably worth the drive! Seems like a fair price
I’ve got a couple stumpies; Levo3 and 15 and am a similar height. Go to a LBS and test ride a few different sizes. My Levo is an S4, and my 15 is an S3. The S3 feels just right to be able to throw it around on the trails, while the S4 is a bit too cumbersome for some of the windy trails (but feels better at speed).
The derailleur & gears appears well used. Ask him to take a picture of the chain with a ruler, so that 12″ pin-to-pin is clearly visible. Anything over ⅛” stretch will require new cassette, chain & chainwheel.
Even IF there’s no chain stretch: That’s a lot of cash for a used bike.
I’m 6’1 and all my bikes are Large. Looks good in the pictures. I would make sure the suspension cycles correctly and doesn’t make any noise. Check the brakes, make sure they’re not mushy or anything. And try the dropper post too.
