because the aeroad is close in price and weight while looking much cooler and being slightly more aerodynamic.

  2. Because Canyon themselves dont care about it. They push the Aeroad and the Speedmax, and a little bit the Endurace. The Ultimate is the forgotten middle child. Consumers consume what they are told whether they like it or not, and they arent told, by anyone, to consume the Ultimate. Not in marketing, not subconciously by seeing it used by pro teams, not anywhere.

  3. Personally I think the Aeroad looks better. Also aerodynamics are going to have a bigger impact on speed vs weight. I think you just get more with the Aeroad vs the Ultimate.

  4. Ironically, here in the flat Netherlands, I see the Endurace and Ultimate more often than the Aeroad. Likely, because the Ultimate (CF) can be purchased starting from 2800 euro’s, and the Aeroad (CF SLX) starts at 4800 euro’s (!). That huge price gap will likely be too big for many cyclists, despite the Aeroad being the better/faster/cooler bike for these flat lands…

  5. Isn’t aeroad in some build almost as lightweight as ultimate but 20ish or more watts savings?

Don’t like it? I LOVE mine. It is the perfect balance for a road bike. And looks way cooler than the aeroad imo

As a Canyon employee once told me, customers want the Aeroad but need the Endurace. The ultimate is most often purchased by educated cyclists who understands the environment they ride and in and want the right tool for the job.

  8. That is the question I asked myself also. Even Endurace is more popular bike, aeroads are everywhere.

If you are not a pro getting six figures income and trying to save every second in the competition, the aero difference is absolutely negligible. it’s just the design preference. and personally i like the look of the Ultimate more.

Advertising is probably a big one. I can’t remember the last time I saw an Alpecin/Movistar/Cany-SRAM rider pick the Ultimate over the Aeroad. Same with the R5 compared to the S5, or the V5Rs compared to the Y1Rs (though del Toro seemed to like it the other day even if it was the spare bike). If you race or want speed, the Aeroad is going to be faster in just about every situation. And even if you want light weight the Aeroad isn’t much heavier.

But hey, it was good enough for Pogi to race on it at Paris Roubaix. Can’t be that bad.

  11. I don’t like the high seatstay look of the ultimate. And I say that as a endurace owner with the same features that i don’t like.

I went from the ultimate to the aeroad (6 years ago) and it was like night and day. 1mph average quicker for the same effort.

  13. I guess a great percentage of people (like me) prefer the aesthetic of aero bikes (not only canyon, for every brand) compared to ‘normal bikes’. Plus the aero road is the ’same’ bike that mvdp uses (the same for colnago, the flagship bike is the one that pogi uses and clearly anyone who can afford to buy it will ’prefer’ it over other models with similar pricetag or components). As other have said it’s not always a great choice but it’s what the heart (due to social, ads, peer pressure) seems to like more

People have different taste and demands. I prefer the ultimate in every aspect. But I respect others who think the opposite 🙂
