Stage 6 of the 2026 Tour de France brings the race into the high mountains, with the legendary Tourmalet set to play a major role before the summit finish on the Gavarnie climb.

This is the kind of stage where the overall classification can change fast.

In this preview, we break down the big climbs, the riders under pressure and how the GC favorites could attack or crack.

After the sprint stage in Pau, the Tour now turns toward a brutal mountain test. #TDF

  1. Tadej puts huge gaps into his competition, but doesn't take yellow. He essentially wins the Tour tomorrow but doesn't take yellow, knowing he can win it any time he wants and lets another team do all the work of controlling the race until he wants to take yellow.

I've yet to see anything from anyone else that makes me think that anyone has a chance of beating Tadej.

  2. i know he is riding for Ayuso but i'd love to see a big day from Derrick Gee tomorrow. even though he hasn't been very flashy so far he has been taking koms every day. i hope he takes a few more tomorrow.

  3. Probably Seixas and his team will push from the foot of the Tourmalet: Benoot, Riccitelo then Seixas will attack. Pogacar, Jonas, Del Toro and maybe Lipowitz will be on the wheel. Others including Evenepoel and Ayuso will be dropped. Probably Pogi will get clear on a final few kilometres. He increases his lead in the downhill and he will win the stage before a Del Toro, Seixas and maybe Jonas group. Jonas and Paul has a similar style maybe they can work together against Pogi and Del Toro. 1. Pogacar, 2. Del Toro, 3. Seixas, 4. Vingegaard, 5. Lipowitz

  4. Since nobody says it, I will. It is not going to be "the big one". Here is why: The Tourmalet is too far away from the finish line. If this stage won't be given to a break away group, UAE, Visma and Red Bull are going to dictate the tempo. Many riders will get dropped, but all the GC riders will stay in one group. Pogacar will most likely take the win in a sprint or a last minute break away
