  1. The chain is routed wrong, get it to wrap around the first jockey wheel and then around through the cage into the second jockey wheel

    I kind of wanna think this is a joke, because this is too obvious. Your chain is not routed around the upper jockey wheel in your derailleur. 🤨

    the chain is just skipping the upper jockey wheel entirely, not even close to being on it. someone probably tried cranking on the limit screws and barrel tension to fix shifting instead of actually rerouting the chain over the top pulley first. once you get the chain properly wrapped around both pulleys the spring tension will hold the cage where it belongs and you can dial in shifting from there. the cage getting pulled inward like that is probably just from the chain dragging it sideways without going through the pulleys correctly, should sort itself out once the chain is on the right path. easy fix once you see it but one of those situations where you wonder how it got to that point in the first place.
