I’ve ridden plenty of cycle paths over the years, but the Towy Valley Path / Llwybr Dyffryn Tywi might just be one of the most scenic. Join me as I explore this traffic-free route through the heart of rural Carmarthenshire.
Officially designated as a Cycleway, this is a traffic-free route open to bicycles and pedestrians.
Following the route of a former railway line, this traffic-free trail winds through the stunning Tywi Valley, passing riverside views, woodlands, historic landmarks and some of the most picturesque countryside in Wales. In this video, I explore the route, share the highlights along the way and take in everything this fantastic cycling path has to offer.
Whether you’re planning a visit, looking for inspiration for your next bike ride, or simply enjoy cycling adventures, I hope you enjoy coming along for the ride.

I like that you include suitability for families and all level's of cyclists
rode it a few weeks ago, such an asset to Carmarthenshire
Different surfaces are for livestock to get more grip, concrete sections, the rest is smooth tarmac. Very good video and observations.
We regularly holiday in parts of the UK where these types of cycle routes have been installed. We cant be alone and therefore the financial pay back is in place for the local businesses!
They done a very nice job there 👌🏻the dream would be eventually the whole country covered in these all linked up,Sustrans have done a good job but some sections are very questionable.
From a road cyclist point of view i’m ok on the road but do prefer b roads and less traffic and doing routes using paths like this, less traffic equals less stress 😅👌🏻
We need more links to paths like these I cycled John o Groats to lands end this may and into June and where there are paths like this it's such a nice ride as soon as you back in the roads it's not that fun when you going a really long way… This looks really nice
Approx £16m cost Matt. Nice review of the route. I’m from Carmarthen and was born a stone’s throw away from Abergwili so it’s my old stomping ground as a kid. There’s a good chance that my mum was at the café at Abergwili museum when you were filming as it’s a regular haunt for her in the good weather. My neighbour from Aberaeron worked for the contractors who built the cycle path so I’ve heard quite a lot about the challenges of the build. I really need to take a ride on the path as it would be a nice change from taking the back road from Llangunnor to Ffairfach via Llanarthne. Also a good excuse to visit an old friend who lives beside the railway line up in Manordeilo! Hwyl 🙂
The steam railway should have been put there with a cycle track along side it, Carmarthen would benefit and also Llandeilo would benefit .
Nice vlog. Cycle path – Wonderful addition to CARMARTHEN. BTW what camera were you using? Image stabilization is amazing👌🏽😍
Let's hope cyclists show regard for walkers and runners – far too many modern-day cyclists behave as if they owned the track and show zero respect by slowing, warning and giving a wide berth to others.
This looks great, look forward to trying it
I got this video as a recommendation recently, loved it and I hadn’t been aware of such a fantastic piece of infrastructure in Carmarthenshire. I absolutely need to get myself down there ASAP and enjoy this route, finally I have good excuse to get down there and do the Swiss Valley route as well. Indeed, I might even actually do the ride into Swansea along Route 4 which has been on my list for ages.
Thanks for an excellent video and giving me something to look forward to on Monday (hopefully!) 🎉🤩🥳
I’m sure I’ve seen the Cardi Bach mentioned on the active travel plan and if they could extend it from Cilgeran to Carmarthen that would be fantastic.
I cycle this path often it's brilliant 🚴💨
