I was a bit too rough peeling off the dried sealant and ended up peeling a bit of the tyre too. Does that mean I need to retire it, or rather, re-tyre it?
yeah she’s done for, you’ve compromised the casing.
If it were me and the tread was still good, I’d tube it and ride it and squeeze some more miles out of it, but if it was a bit old, its time to replace.

Initial thought was to throw a tube in and run it, but it looks like a pretty large section of the actual casing is compromised so even my risk-tolerant self says to chuck it.

It’s done, get new tires.

Other than big dried up clumps, I’ve never understood why people take the time to peel dried sealant out of tires.

Rear tire and glue it back assuming there’s still enough tread to bother.

Not a problem for you, it’s a problem for the rubbish bin.

i have never once peeled off dried sealant or have any idea why you would ever spend the time doing so. it’s supposed to dry and make an airtight barrier and you are just undoing that.
