Hi everyone,
I just received my new 2026 Canyon Grail CF SLX. Mechanically everything seems fine, but I’m disappointed with the paint finish.
There are several cloudy / uneven matte areas and visible streaks across the frame. They’re hard to capture on camera, but clearly visible in daylight from certain angles. To me, it looks more like inconsistent paint or clear coat than transport damage.
I’m torn:
On one hand:
– It’s “just” cosmetic.
– The bike is great value for the money.
– Matte Canyon finishes may not always be perfectly uniform.
– A replacement could arrive looking the same—or worse.
On the other hand:
– It‘s still a ~€5,000 bike.
– At this price, should the finish be flawless?
I also bought Canyon’s clear frame protection film and planned to apply it right away. Would that make these cloudy areas less visible, maybe almost invisible?
And would this noticeably hurt resale value later, or would most buyers not care if the bike is otherwise protected and in excellent condition?
My main concern is avoiding “replacement roulette” if this is simply normal for Canyon’s matte finish.
What would you do?
Keep it as is?
Ask Canyon for a partial refund / store credit?
Insist on a replacement?
Thanks!

Mine had similar marks I was able to wipe off with a clean detailing cloth. The one paint chip I had on my bike they gave me a solid credit for.
Looks completely normal to me.
Thats the raw carbon look
This is completely normal. You are just seeing the underlying carbon. Not a paint issue. It’s supposed to be like this.

Normal. You should ride your new bike, it will go as fast as you can make it go.
Thats normal carbon…
Typisch Canyon, was da in letzter Zeit so abgeht ist eine Katastrophe , siehe mein Post …. auch ein 5k bike
Looks like shit to me I don’t know why everyone keeps saying it’s normal. This is supposed to be a paint job so why is everyone saying that’s how raw carbon looks? Also doesn’t look like raw carbon to me.
Completely normal. Canyon won’t offer anything and you’ll waste time asking.
I’m no expert but I have no idea what I’m looking for.
It is called stealth. No color paint, just transparent clear coat on raw carbon. Your bike is 100gram lighter than painted one. It is intented, you’ve ordered that flavour. Enjoy.
Please tell me this is satire
Nennt man Sichtcarbon…völlig normal
