On this 8th leg of the cycle, I go from Folkestone to Torquay, along the wide and varied South Coast fo England. Split almost exactly into two halves, the first part of the journey took in the wild and unusual Dungeness, as well as several quintessential seaside towns like Brighton. then there was a quick diversionary cycle across the tropical Isle of Wight, where there were fossils, old rocket launch pads, and tiki bars. And then back on the mainland there were storms in Bournemouth, steep hills and heavy traffic in Dorset, and a boomers paradise in Torquay.

  1. Dungeness is unique, all post-apocalyptic bleak beauty. I'm fairly sure the black and yellow bungalow (screen left at 03:49) is Derek Jarman's Prospect Cottage and world famous garden. The Guardian took some photos of the interiors a couple of years ago – just wonderful! 🖤💛🖤

    Edit: 21:07 💯😢

  2. Suvverners don't expect to see the mere bicycle on their roads! I was expecting to see/hear clips of drivers yelling at you to get out of the deleted way!

  3. Most fun adventure or ages. Love your style! I rode around the coastline of Britain last year. After 30+ years of practice. It was still hard at times. 😅

  4. Nice one Ollie. A bit of a jippy tummy is all part of the experience too I guess, although not pleasant. Your enthusiasm for stuff (dinosaurs, dinosaurs….dinosaurs) always make me smile.

  5. Ha wish I'd known you were back on the South Coast – I was sure you'd already done it, but I live in Bognor BUT originally from Blackpool. You literally cycled past the house I was born in and the house I now live in!

  6. Torquay is a nice place to start the next leg. My advice would be to take it in smaller chunks from here on. Cornwall, Devon, Someset, Hereford, Pembrook, these things cant be rushed. Hope you will also visit Anglesey as well, as I went there just a week ago. There is a nice boat ride to Puffin island as well.
