With the Tour de France returning to the legendary Alpe d’Huez this year, we investigate whether modern tech and superhuman form will finally see Marco Pantani’s “unbreakable” record fall. We also dive into a massive week for tech, featuring a custom Pharrell Williams x Louis Vuitton Pinarello and Canyon’s revolutionary new motor with an internal gearbox. Plus, we cover incredible endurance feats and debate the impact of “motodoping” in professional time trials.

Hello, American here. Sometimes you guys quote distances in both miles and kilometers and speeds in kph and mph. Usually I can tell from context that you are referencing miles or kph.
But then when Dan said the guy on the backroad was going 40mph I was struck with the thought, do Brits flip back and forth between mph and kph in every day conversation, or is miles per hour just used for speed and Brit’s assume it’s kph?
Got a good friend in the US who says nitch. I never say anything, but Si's face represents my thoughts about it
Pantanis 1st, 2nd and 3rd record will stand. No doubt. Riis' on hautacam is good for several years aswell, I'm sure.
@ 01:30 27 minutes, not 37 🙂
Hello Dan and Si I know exactly how to stop cell phone use while people drive cars; make mandatory confiscation be the default if your caught texting and of using a cell without a hands free device. even having the phone being taken away immediately and held even just for 24hrs would end distracted driving via cell phone use immediately
One watch is missing…….
Si can you stop turning your head to the side please, the fluff at the back of your head looks like a merkin stuck on back there… get it sorted.
Caption competition: when you think you’re the one who got offered a 30 million dollar contract
Dan is correct that one of the accepted America English pronunciation for niche rhymes with itch. See for example Merriam-Webster online dictionary.
lol no nugget and then you come up with several?
Sorry Dan, it's not "nitch" for niche in the US; we say "neesh".
Not sure why Lachlan Morton was mentioned in the Tour Divide comment. He is a rockstar but Robin Gemperle, who won in 2025, was faster than Lachlan. BUT more importantly, you should have also pointed out that Meaghan Hackinen(Canadian) broke the WOMENS record held by Lael Wilcox; AND Felix Laberge(also Canadian) broke the long standing single speed record …. 50,000m of climbing on a single speed!!! Otherwise a great show.
I have heard niche pronounced both "nitch" and "neesh" here in Rochester NY
Because of where it falls in Le Tour I don’t think Pantani’s record will be broken this year and Si really needs to invest in an iron!
I would love a TdF tee in a women specific shirt; make some please for your lady fans!
Why were Armstrong’s victories erased and not Pantani’s records? After all BOTH doped.
Riis was doped to the gills with that Hautacam record ! Mr 60% !!!
My friend owns a bike shop called "Slow Twitch Niche". The rhyme doesn't work if it's pronounced neesh.
Was the Dachshund in the Hack/Bodge segment clipped in?
From US. Never heard nitch, always neesh for niche.
Caption contest-Martinez was so excited with the ice, he started to Salsa dance on his bike.

Mentioning a future woman presenter in jest made me think of a question that I posed a few weeks ago: couldn't there be a female presenter available to join the lads?
Dan, could you review some of the tech you spot on rhe race viewers bikes? Especially wine/beer/beverage/food carrying set ups? I find it difficult to carry the amount of libations & nutrients required to view my local cyclocross race on my bike. Thinking I need to upgrade to GRX di2.
I love you guys. I love this presentation. What I don’t love is that you will ignore other especially pantani in this segment about his time. But often times you will mention how Lance Armstrong is a doper. I would just like to have some sort of consistency between European proven dopers and American proven dopers. A lot of times, especially with Ries and contador you all forget to discuss in the same disdain as Armstrong.
why would you reference those times from that era….records in an outdoor sport are invariably 'just data' not insight
