Trek 1000 road bike
Excellent condition
Size 54 Cms
Carbon fork
700C wheels
Shimano group set
My long term goal is to do triathlons, but given my current fitness, I’m a few years out from actually competing. I just want a basic bike right now that allows me to get used to riding a road bike (and possibly a sprint triathlon), and I will most likely upgrade to a better bike once I take training seriously.
The bike seems to be a good starter bike, but I want to ask if this is a good price ($325) or if I should try to negotiate down to around $200. Also I am 5’ 8.5”, so would a 54cm bike be good or should I go with a 52cm bike.
If this bike is not good, what other bike models should I look into?

Seems like a really good price. Are any of the components upgraded or worn? That would affect the value either up or down. Otherwise it seems like a good price 300 or less. This is known as an excellent entry level road bike with a responsive feel.
This is a pretty nice older bike (probably about 20 years).
You or someone that knows bike should closely look at the carbon fork for any cracks or issues. Might be just fine but you want to be sure.
The shift/brake levers from this era tend to get sticky as they age. Sometime you can fix this by squirting a crap ton of lube/cleaner and sometimes not. It’s very hard to find replacement parts that don’t have the same sticky problem.
These could be original tires so they need to be replaced as well as the tubes. ~$100 for new decent tires and tubes.
Those seats will chew your ass up so a new seat as well. Don’t cheap out on your butt!
