Smart solution. These flies and mosquitoes and ticks, etc. really make it rough and enjoying the outdoors sometimes.

I always have an under helmet cap on, stops any bugs that get onto the helmet from actually getting to me

  3. Live in NH. Can I offer a resounding “Fuck deerflies” in solidarity? They are the absolute worst, people fail to realize that they try to crawl into your hair and bite your scalp. I’d wear a cap underneath the helmet as well.

It’s been so dry here I’m not sure if we even had a hatch. They’ve been a non issue this year.

  5. I’ve been to your lovely state before to walk a piece of land our company bought. I was horrified by the horse flies. I still have nightmares 7year later about fighting them off. Also got Lyme disease on the same walk from a tick.

  6. Their bite it the worst. We get them in Northern Ontario. They can even bite through my thin skull cap, so when I ride up there it’s usually a thicker bandana I wear under the helmet

  7. Now that’s the quality content I come here for!

And from Ontario, fuck deer flies too.

  8. Side question: where in MA are you riding? Looking for spots. Guess I’ll need the patch too.

What if you put it somewhere on your bike that you can remove easily? If it works at least your are not a walking fly graveyard 🤣

Per NPR, some biting insects are drawn to DEET now because there is a guaranteed meal.

I’m from TX and we have horse flies which, true to the saying, are bigger. Do deer flies also relentlessly chase and follow you for long distances?

  12. While we’re here, did you guys install a net on your helmet?

My older one had them and I loved it for it.

My new one doesn’t and I’m not sure putting nets on it would be a neat job. But they do definitely keep out nasty insects.

  13. oh god, hope I don’t have to use this. does anyone know if Illinois(ish) has deer flies like this?

  14. We have deer flies in the Florida Everglades. I have not used anything with DEET in at least a decade, and after using Sawyer, with picaridin, I can say it works pretty well against deer flies. Only when I forget to spray myself do they get me.

  15. Deer fly? I’ve heard of a house fly, even a superfly. But I ain’t never heard of a deer fly

gross looking trap but the results speak for themselves, deer flies are the worst and this beats getting chewed up all ride

We have them too in Canada and they are so aggressive I sometimes have to ride with a bug net over my head…
