Alpe d’Huez Has DESTROYED the Best Cyclists in History
Twenty-one hairpin bends. Over a million spectators lining the road. A mountain that has decided more Tour de France careers than almost any climb in the race’s history.
This is the story of Alpe d’Huez — the climb that humbled Eddy Merckx at the height of his powers, nearly ended Lance Armstrong’s reign in 2003, turned Marco Pantani into a legend, broke Andy Schleck’s dream of yellow, and finally found the limits of Tadej Pogačar.
Some riders conquered this mountain. Far more left it with something they never got back.

  1. That crash by Armstrong happened on Stage 15 in 2003 on the ascent of Luz-Ardiden… where the stage finished and Armstrong won. It did not happen on Alpe du Ez.
