hiii so I spontaneously decided to cycle from Oxford to London … 120 km without any training. Come along for the ride as I document the entire journey: the highs, the lows, questioning my life choices … and being a bit more open about my mental state as an Oxford PhD student.

  1. Hi everyone! I know the audio is a bit muffled in some parts. Sometimes the cars were just so loud that I had to use a noise reduction filter, which made the audio sound a bit weird. Hope you still enjoy the video 🧸

  2. What a nice trip.
Highly recommend going to Shotover Country Park in Oxford.
There is also a really nice hiking trail around the Oxford Golf Club.

  3. Alina, I am so proud of you that you rode your bike all the way to London from Oxford. That was a major achievement. That was a lovely trip especially riding through the beautiful countryside and those nice little towns.

  4. Great job friend these all geft for you🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

  5. That extended therapy session you took it really well. Kudos to you.
Side note: I really like the tights u were wearing..they are really sick. Is it a proper cycling kit or a separate tight ?

  6. I think that you experienced a lot of what a cyclist experiences on your trip ~ experienced or otherwise.

Routes where google says there is a bike "path", but you can convince yourself that google really isn't as smart as it should be

Routes where you have the choice of 'terrible unkept bike path' or 'scary main road' ~ and politicians wonder why there are not so many cyclists !

Doing a big ride is all about planning, and pacing yourself. You gave yourself the whole day for the trip, so lets assume 10 hours, so that meant and average of 10kmh, and it seems that you managed to average closer to 20. This means you had time for breaks if needed, and never actually felt stressed for the distance, because you were persistently ahead of schedule – that is how you do long distance fun rides

I love the end with you on the train, munching your way through the remaining energy bars ~ I felt that, Keeping the hunger at bay during a long ride is probably the most important thing, and unlike thirst, if you find yourself being hungry its too late. So like your complete ride it is little and often.

That looks like it was a beautiful ride, you should share the gpx file, looks like it was a cool route (remember to remove your start from home ~ you don't want the whole of the internet to know where you live !)

  7. I wouldn't suggest doing it without training. But if you do, you'll learn some things the hard way. But overall you seemed to prepare well for it. A snack every 35 minutes, then stopping for coffee and some breaks in-between. Magnesium is excellent to take before and during…
