Don't be like me. Marked a line to cut the steerer, walked over to the bandsaw, got confused by a different mark and in my haste, I followed it instead of double checking. Could use a couple extra inches right about now.

I did a similar, arguably more dumb thing with a vintage 1” threaded Time carbon fork.
Long story short I didn’t want to pay a shop $75 to cut threads, so I decided to get a die ($40) and do it myself, but it got cross thread backing it off. Ruined it. Then I find out this newer small shop in town would have cut the threads for $20.
The moral of the story is: when in doubt, pay the professional.
