heya! as the title states, i'm new to bikes, i've ridden an old one for about 5 years commuting but never really thought much about it, NOT a namebrand bike.
lately i've been seeing a lot of cool looking bikes on instagram and though i deserve an upgrade; i found this beauty for roughly $250 on the second hand market
it's a 4 hour drive and the gas would likely add another $100 to the price but i'd be ok with that as the city the seller is from is a nice one and i'd treat it as a little weekend getaway.
the exact model is Cannondale caad optimo 4 in the size 54, i'm 1.72 cm tall so i think it's about right (give or take)
would this be a good purchase? i'm already thinking about buying new tires and getting it serviced, any other pieces of advice would be welcome!

Can’t speak to bike quality as I’m new to this as well. I just drove about 4 hrs round trip to get my first road bike and it was well worth it! I personally would avoid a 8hr round trip unless I was super confident that I could trust the seller and that the bike is in the condition he says it’s in, and that it will fit you ofc. That’s like an entire day wasted if you end up not buying for whatever reason. But your call. I found new listings popping up on FB marketplace like every 10 minutes, so you might be better off waiting for a closer deal to pop up. But if you’re set on this one, don’t let my pessimism stop you!
Drivetrain looks rough. If tires are bad too, you’re looking at over $200 in repairs/service at a bike shop.
If you can clean a drivetrain, install chain, cables, change tires/tubes and do a basic shift and brake tuneup yourself, it may be worth it.
