After years of being a baby I'm finally deciding to learn air over coping. But despite spending hours doing it over and over again I can't get myself to go any higher.. do I need to go faster or am I pumping wrong? I can definitely feel myself hesitating as I approach the quarter. How do you guys go 4ft+ without being hesitation?
How can I stop being scared of air over coping?

You just do it man. Accept the falls. You chose this adventure. It’s worth it. Focus on what you’re athletically doing to not have it happen again. It gets easier. Also, start practicing on 5 and 6 footers eventually. Bigger quarters throw you into where you need to be easier than small quarters with like no transition.
Back case is better than front case, always.
Sounds a bit counterintuitive, but try on taller quarters or find a vert wall to practice on. It’ll give you a sense of what to expect. Pad up if that’s what you need to get over the fear hurdle.
🔥 🔥 I have no advice but that was decent
Dude you got this!! Like the other guy said, if some pads make you feel a little safer that’s definitely a good idea, shit wait until the parks empty and do it in a bubble suit for a while if that’s what it takes. You have it within you to conquer these fears
That’s actually pretty good for that size quarter. But realize it’s a lot harder to air small quarters like the one your airing. The timing from pump to pop is a lot quicker so you need to be more dialed. Bigger quarters are more forgiving going up and landing cos there’s more time for your body to make adjustments and you don’t need to be as precise. But the height of them can be intimidating.
Screw it and do it, its the only way.
You got the right idea! At a certain point you will need to start pushing the speed past your comfort zone, especially on bigger quarters, but just keep pushing it bit by bit and you’ll be flying in no time.
I came back after a few years of bot riding and went through the same process… All the advice here in here is bang on; you do just have to commit and trust that hanging up is waaay more unlikely than you’ve made up in your head.
Here’s a couple of things that really helped me go from being scared at 1-2 ft to being comfortable at 5 ft now:
It’s a bit like going from a grom bunny hop to jumping doubles or a box… If you lift up, absorb the hop, and slam it down a fraction of second later then you’ll never clear a jump properly. You have to relax and realize you’ve gotta spend some time in the air. If you pop of off coping, tuck, 180, and brace to land, you’ll never air.
Obviously, go to a bigger ramp. Ride all the way up the ramp, let the front tire pop off the coping a little, and let the back wheel roll off normally. Don’t pop off as hard as you can. Don’t 180 of the lip. Wait till you’re a little higher, spot your landing just before the apex, and the 180 will just happen.
Once you’re a bit more more comfortable and consistent, go a little faster and tuck you bars into your thighs for as long as you have the nerve when you go up the lip… Trust me, it’ll make sense, it’s like a hack to boost a little more. Once you get the feel for that, you’ll be set.
And one more thing; big big ramps are sooo much better too. If you have a full pipe or bowl that isn’t insane, it’s well worth getting comfortable just pumping and pushing towards the coping.
You did!
That’s a small quarter. I’d say find bigger and def not cement if you wana learn to blast high af
Fund a more vertical quarter
